I'm speccing up a new PC which I plan to order this week.
It will be used for photoshop and general internet duties.
I already have a hard drive and operating system so I will need:

CPU
Motherboard (with graphics)
RAM
Case
PSU
Monitor

What do you think of this?

Any advice welcome!

OK, after a bit of reading it would seem more sensible to go for quad core so I've upped my budget by around £100 to a £600ish spec. How's this?

stulid, any advantages with the case you mention or is it just as good as the 300 but a little cheaper. I do prefer the look of the 300 :)

Also there's the option of the IIyama Prolite X2472HD which seems good at around £200 but not sure if this or the Dell would be better for photo work.

its the same as the 300, but has an all black interior and a more refined finish to the front.

If you plan to overclock you need a p67 mobo or if u dont get the non k version to save a few quid.

i would second doing this if you can afford it.

however, dont forget the P series motherboards dont have any onboard graphics, so you'll need to pick up a cheapo graphics card as well

You're totally correct. After looking at more images, it does look a bit better :)

Here's a revised spec. Reason I have chosen the MSI board is that I can get the CPU+that MSI board elsewhere saving £36 on the total price below. Not too much of a price difference from my previous spec but this hopefully should be a better system:

Do the retail CPUs still come with stock coolers? If so, how much of an overclock is viable with it before needing something with more grunt?

very nice looking spec, if you ever wanted to use her for gaming just slap a new grahics card in there ;) like a £100 5850 or gtx560

Perhaps in the future!! At the moment it's just the office PC. Bits arrived this afternoon and it's now all built, windows and programs are installed and it flies!! :)
