Could someone check my spec please:

I have a Creative Elite Pro, a Seasonic S12 600w PSU and a Lian Li V1100 case already lying around and was thinking of making some use of them. Would the above be ok with a) the seasonic and b) do you reckon I'd get the noctua in the Lian Li? If the answers are no would it be worth me going for a Antec 300 and a Corsair xxx PSU?

Any components worth swapping in/out? I'm not sure about the Gigabyte board because the main benefit over the equivalent Asus appears to be the sound capabilities but I'll probably be using the elite pro instead.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I have been toying with the idea of the P5Q pro also but some people tend to say the gigabyte is better value for reasons I can't remember. Probably can't go wrong with either. Was thinking of changing to the TB Samsung earlier as I hear it uses 3 platters (rather than 5) which increases performance a significant amount over the other drives. Had great experiences with the last two deskstar drives I've used though.

Thanks Lunarwolf that's one of the things I wasn't so sure about as I haven't been inside the thing for almost 2 years. I'm borderline pulling the trigger, just investigating other graphics card options but the 4850 looks like the best bang for the buck at the moment.

If I was going to go for a different processor I'd probably go for the i7 but then it effectively doubles the cost of the whole build with the additional memory and mobo costs. Never thought much of GTA IV to be honest, it looks dull and repetitive on the consoles. Would probably rather install the first one and play that :D.

I'm doing a bit of u-turn on the mobo (after thinking of the P5Q pro) and ram choices, aswell as going for the 1tb samsung spinpoint F1 as said before. I'm choosing the Samsung based on one particular glowing review I saw for it where it seemed to be as fast as the raptors for most things although obviously not all. For the mobo I'm going to go for the original gigabyte and pair it with some g-skill stuff because that mobo doesn't like OCZ.

PwnDirect: why do you recommend that particular 4850? I reckon I'm going to go for the 512mb Powercolor one now as that seems to have pretty good cooling applied and it only costs £120 or something.

No doubt having not used the S12 600w psu for almost 2 years it's going to blow up the entire rig when I get it. Tempted to hold off a week or two until I'm closer to pay day (24th) :).

Cheers Zildjian you've saved me a fiver! :)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

lol :)

Well the Powercolor I'm looking at getting is a similar price to the gainward on another site so I think it's another case of apples and apples. The warranty doesn't bother me massively as in a year I will probably have moved on from the 4850 and if it dies after that then fair enough £129.
