Hi All,

I have now decided to go with the following with 16gb for my new build:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-165-OE&groupid=43&catid=2512&subcat=2513

I also plan on getting a new SDD, probably one of the Samsung 250gb ones and a Nvidia 760 or 770....

These will all go in my existing HAF 932, and use my Corsair HX 850w PSU.

I only have 2 more questions:

1) Will my existing psu work with the new setup
2) Should I change the cooler that comes with the bundle?

Thanks

Thanks RJC,

I wouldn't know where to start if I overclocked myself tbh..... Im sure I could figure it out :) Need to break down that bundle and work out how much cheaper it would be :)

Is it quite easy to OC??

Can anyone find a review of the ram that's included in the bundle its the TeamGroup Vulcan Orange???? Tried googling it but nothing comes up???

I think they are new in the UK and not heard any issues with them.

Overclocking is a case of increasing the multiplier of the cpu and increasing the voltage, have search around the web there should be some low downs on overclocking with that board.

Team group are manufacturers of good quality ram, they seemed to dissapear from the uk market for a few years. But i remember having some of their ddr2 on intel s775, excellent stuff that oc'd very well.

Thanks Setter and RJC.....

I just priced up the components by themselves and its about £50 quid difference, so I think I'll just buy it pre Oc'd. Might call them and ask them 2 make it with 2 x 8Gb sticks as opposed to 4 x 4gb.....

Meds

The most basic overclocking is just to increase the CPU ratio. You can start adjusting voltages to push for higher overclocks, more volts equals higher temps hence needing a good cooler. If you want to OC that's the mobo to do it on, just take it in baby steps :D

You can get the older H100 as a refurb cheap too.

Hi Hono,

Would you say that the Kingston Ram is better than the one with the bundle?

I did consider the H100i clc, but my HAF 932 only has one fan slot on the back :(

Basically the same dude, same speed and timings, I'd prefer black over the orange should I want to reuse the RAM kit. I used the Kinston Beast as it was cheaper, it will be taller than the Teamgroup though. I was fairly sure the H100s fit in the ceiling of the HAF 932

If you did go with the kingston, i doubt if it would fit below the k2 cooler. This cooler is quite wide and covers all ram slots on the board, and would clash with tall ram. Low profile ram is a bit of a must with it.

Yes mate fair point. I did say the Beast RAM would be tall. Ideally I would have used the Patriot Mamba kit but it was out of stock.

I was really just trying to show it worked out kinder on his pocket going D.I.Y :) It would make more sense to take the refurb'd H100 over the K2 but each to their own

Actually guys, I think the ram would fit. LP ram is 30mm in height, the front fan clears the top by at least 5mm. The Beast ram is 41.4mm in height, so by moving the fan up, this would add another 10mm clearance. Or you could just put the fan on the back of the cooler.

I just don't argue with LP is the best philosophy. Those are good tips and I've seen them before.

I wouldn't personally get the K2 it was a price comparison really. The H100s are due second week of August (very soon) and that's a good price on pre-order and works out even cheaper than the K2, could even upgrade the fans on the H100 if he wanted.

The pre-build was £700 with 16GB we have managed to save him quite a few bob already :)

The Mamba(41mm) fits no problem and as the Beast is only .4mm taller there should`nt be a problem. The Beast is a bit deceiving when you look at the pics.
The H100 will save a bit of cash, but personally, I would sooner have the K2.

Did you get a micrometer for your B'day bud? ;)

Don't get me wrong you can't go wrong with a top end air cooler. In my mind the H100 (refurb) is cheaper and will cool just as well. CLCs are the first baby steps into watercooling, when the pump eventually fails in the unit I would still look at it as a 240mm rad and a set of fans to be cannibalised for a custom loop.

No, already got one. But I would`nt mind a voltage meter, birthday is in 2 months, don`t mind 2nd hand. :D

It's mine this week. I already have a multimeter and a micrometer so think hard what to get me lol

P.S The Fenrir I now have has already been considered to be a great "gift" from you :D

I look forward to seeing what the OP chooses and hopefully to see some pretty pics in the future
