Hi,

I have the following in my basket and would appreciate a spec check from those more knowledgeable than I am.

I need to add PSU to the basket but I'm not sure as to the wattage I will require and so would also appreciate some advice with this.

I already have and will be installing an XFX RX480 8gb gpu, a 1tb Western Digital Caviar Black and a 250gb Samsung Evo 850 SSD.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,075.54 (includes shipping: £12.60)

With thanks.

scaled it a bit down for you , 1700 chip since it will overclock pretty much the same as 1800x
Down sized the sae (same brand) as it seems extreme if your not running a lot of drives or need serious cooling power- 240 AIO will handle the chip just fine.
swapped 250gb NVMe drive to larger 500GB Sata3 Drive- would rather have space then increase in speed you'll be pressed to notice the difference in real world.

also with @8 Pack ram and taichi board, should get a nice bump on the memory and overclock. I know 8 Pack highly rates the board

ah, i forgot thermal grizzlie paste!!!!!!!!!! must- on any build instead of **** hats given out :)

focus unit has 10 yr warranty, RMA in germany i believe and they are an OEM , one of the best along with FSP
550w more then enough for your card, Vega 56 or up to GTX 1080- should handle next gen cards around this level just fin- if extra few pennies then 650w version to cover any Flagship cards if you win the lotto

slap the AIO up top, rear fan at the front and should have a case with slightly more positive pressure to avoid sucking in dust through unfiltered area's. also GPU will receive nice cold air

@Orbitalwash, thanks for your reply.

I think I will stick with the 1800x as the price difference between that and the 1700 is not too large and I'm just not comfortable with overclocking. However, I think I will swap out the m.2 for more storage as per your suggestion.

As for the cooler, the difference in price from the 240 is just £5. Is the 360 unlikely to offer superior cooling performance?

Thanks for the PSU suggestion, I was really stuck on this one.

Is it not necessary to have a fan exhausting at the rear?

Edit: Ah, I just noticed you suggested a slightly smaller case, hence the 240 cooler suggestion. I'll go have have a look at reviews for the case you are suggesting.

And yes, I'll make sure to add thermal grizzly.

With thanks.

in theory 360 can dissipate more heat , but all down to rad design and air flow, could have a stand alone 240mm/45mm thick rad that would outperform a 360mm AIO with default fans .
To be honest, If your not going to overclock manually, which i recommend then getting B350 Chipset like Gigabyte Gaming 3 or ASUS Strix will save cash, £100 in the case of Gigabyte board.
Ram should still hit 3200hz XMP enabled and 1800x should hold its XFR overclock

I'm such an idecisive person. I have pondered for way too long on which components to buy for my upgrade build and now I just need to get on with it. Help me to pull the trigger guys!

You can see my original plan in the posts above. I'm basically upgrading from the original i7 920do cpu and 6gb ddr3 ram.

I will throw in my rx480 gpu and will re-use a current mechanical hdd for storage.

After taking on board some of Orbital's advice, I have come to the conclusion that my original basket is probably overkill for me in terms of both power and desk footprint. I have also decided to try to reduce the cost as much as possible, which will hopefully enable me to buy a decent monitor in the near future.

I am very reluctant to get involved with overclocking and ideally I would just like to build it, turn it on and use it and hopefully without any headaches or tinkering.

My basket now looks like this:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £858.40 (includes shipping: £12.60)

Does everyhting look compatible? Is there anything that I should be changing?

I guess I'm looking for reassurance before I hit buy!

With thanks.

if your not going taichi for best board. go Gaming 3 - b350 chipset but overclocks very well and its highly recommended on here- allows you to go Ryzen 1700 ! and little change in cost

Total: £516.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

£492 vs £500 - extra 2 cores and 4 threads - should have a longer life and should overclock to 3.9ghz on that board
