Hi there,

Finally got the money to buy a new pc and have almost settled on the following components:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-152-AM)

Asus A8N-E nForce4 Ultra (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-088-AS)

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL)

Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-018-SA)

NEC ND4570 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM (CD-030-NE)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)

Antec Sonata II Piano Black Quiet Case - 450W Smart Power PSU (CA-040-AN)

Samsung SM-913N 19" LCD Monitor - Silver (MO-022-SA)

As for a graphics card, i dont play games on the pc at all, so i'll just use a x300se that i have lying around. As for overclocking, i'll be attempting a mild overclock on the 3800+, nothing more, hence the value ram.

Hope everything looks ok. ;)

Looks ok to me. Ram wont have any effect on the overclock though if you use a divider. Ie run the memory at a slower speed and the oc will push it up again to near its proper speed.

Yea what i was planning on doing. Was just thinking, if i was to get the GeiL Value stuff, would it be worth the extra £20 ??

Thanks

If you mean this ..
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL) .. i wouldnt bother, keep the Corsair ram you have.

Both are CAS3 (latency), both are 2x 1 gig sticks, both are PC3200.
So apart from the fact that they are made by different manufacturers they appear to be the same, at least superficially.

Now i havent looked at any of the other specs closely like RAS# to CAS#,
RAS# Precharge, Cycle Time (TRAS), so dont really know if either is minutely better. But if it was me i dont know if its worth switching or paying anything extra for the name change.

But if you really want a different answer than - yes go for it.

Umm ok, yes. I dont know how i missed that but you are sooo right, the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 are so much more faster than the Corsair ram you wanted originally that i would definitely go for the Geil ram, even if they were £100 more expensive. (Sorry, sarcasm off).

Read my above post.

No. From the info on OcUK they seem identical speeds. But seeing as the Geil mentions some of the other important timings (3.0 8-4-4 ) & the Corsair doesnt i cant comment (see above post again). If you care to find that info out yourself please feel free. But that looks like stock timing for PC3200 ram, so i would suggest th Corsair ram is the same.
