Hey all!

My brother is currently looking to build a new PC, but I get the impression he's a being a bit hasty and not really researching the whole thing enough.

My knowledge of the market these days is a bit dated, so I thought I'd get all you pro's opinions on his first rushed spec suggestion.

His main use for it will be gaming, with some TV watching, as far as I can gather.

For comparison, his current spec is:

Asus A8V Deluxe
Opteron 165
1Gb Patriot 2-3-2-5 PC3200
~300gb HD space (?)
Radeon 9600pro. 256mb (I think).

As you may notice, those aren't OcUK's prices, but rest assured, I will convince him here's the best place to get the bits.

All help appreciated! :)
Peter

Edit: Case and power unit seem to have been missed, suggestions for these too please!

The general level of spending is around £1K I believe.

Just guessing at under £1K from looking at your above spec.

Much much much better. :D

Just add the desired OS and your ready to go. :)

Looks great Azza!

Just to say though, I believe he is re-using his DVD drive and LG DVD-RAM burner from his current computer, so drives are not needed.

Also, I personally prefer Samsung HDs for quiet/performance comprimise, but I imagine it makes little difference in price at this level.

I'll take note. :)

With hard drives its either Seagate or Hitachi for me. :)

It is a very nice spec for the money.

You can buy an awesome PC for under £1k nowa days.

Anyone have any last comments before I make a final plan?

ta. :)

EDIT: Can anyone tell me whether this (three letter acronym) virus protection thing on the amd cpus is anything special? he seems to think it is...
