Hi Folks,

Can I just get your thoughts on a spec check as below:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPX10004GK)

8800GTS 512 (can't remember which brand it is atm)
Trusty old Enermax 600w PSU

And any suggestions for mobo would be good. I'd like to keep the mobo price sensible but still offer me SLI in the future.

Thanks in advanced :)

If you really want an SLi capable motherboard then your options are somewhat limited, I'd possibly suggest something based around the Nforce 750i chipset such as this Asus.

Unless you are heavily overclocking the PC8000 might be slightly overkill, PC6400 is likely to be more than sufficient.

I did think that about the ram but it didn't seem much of a premium.

So what mobo would people recommend if I wasn't as fussed about SLI?

Will the nforce chipset limit which cpu's i can use in the future?

Do the newer chipsets perform better of tend to clock more?

Sorry for all the Q's

Sorry, missed this yesterday. The Nforce 7 series chipset supports 45nm CPUs so offers the same as P35/X38 in that regard.

As for performance, not especially better as far as I'm aware of. The main thing is added features such as Crossfire at the full 16x for both lanes (in the case of X38/X48) and support for PCI-E 2.0, neither of which matter greatly to most people yet. :)
