Hi all,

With my budget ~£450, i've come up with this with games in mind. What do you think? An improvements anywhere?

XFX GeForce 8800 GTX XXX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PV-T80F-SHD9)

Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H GeForce 7100 Micro-ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-5400C5 Dual Channel Vista Upgrade Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2VU6674GK)

Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200AAKS)

Pioneer DVR-215DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail

This all comes in at £444.01, please let me know your thoughts, go easy though, it's been a while since i've put one together :)

It all looks pretty good to me, I might suggest going for PC6400 Ram though. I know you probably will be limited in terms of overclocking by the motherboard but I suspect the faster Ram would be easier to sell on in the future if necessary and if you do change motherboard it will be better for overclocking.

Actually come to that point is there any special reason for choosing a mATX motherboard with a full sized case?

it wasn't deliberately meant to be that close to the max price, but it's still pretty impressive that it is that close :p

edit: just noticed the missing optical drive, you'll need to chuck one of them in =(

Not at all, probably just me having a "man look".

I think i'll swap the mobo for the D3SL as Ben has suggested. Give me something to build on then. Might also be worth mentioning that the resolutions won't be higher than 1360x768 for a while. 3 months + and i'll be getting a 22" monitor however.

and the 4850 will be much better than the 8800GTX esp for £111.

and ben i had this tab open for a good 20mins, when only the OP had posted. i found it weird that we came out with nearly the exact spec LOL

Stay away from corsair power supplies I think there's an issue now with the quality control lots of people have very hot power supplies including me and they are the brand new batches now.

Nah check the corsair support forums it's full of people with dodgy ones.
I'll be getting a Be quiet power supply when this cruddy thing goes.
