Hi,

Looking to put together a new system for Web and Software development, Gaming, Image and Video editing and a range of other tasks too. Therefore looking at the following items

  • Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)
  • MSI P7N Diamond nForce 780i SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard with Free Creative X-FI Card
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
  • OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR2 (OCZ2P10664GK)
  • Leadtek GeForce GTX 280 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Samsung TS-H653N/HPBH 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM
  • Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU
  • Xilence XPF120R Red Wing 120mm Quiet Fan (x2)
  • Akasa 8-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-Bit - OEM (66R-02034)

I also have plenty of spare SATA disk drives laying around so I don't require one. It will also be connected up to a OcUK 24" Value monitor...and hopefully a second one if the prices come back down (or 2 other identical monitors I will purchase another time).

A few questions of concern
  • Will the 650watt supply be enough for powering 2 of the 280 GTX cards? if not what would people suggest?
  • Does the X-Fi card support 5.1 optical output for Dolby Digital / DTS? I know most onboard solutions are stereo only :-(
  • Should this setup easily overclock to 3Ghz?

Thanks for any advice people can offer to me

Regards,

Richard

Not that horrible arctic cooling freezer......go tuniq tower!!
Otherwise 3.6ghz is possible & 3ghz easy

2 GTX 280 is gonna need a 1kw supply to be safe really
