It would be greatly appreciated if a few people could leave me some comments/suggestions on what the spec PC that i might buy.

It will most like be the following:

- Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB
- Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
- Asus P5Q Pro intel P45 (OR the Biostar Tpower P45)
- Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX 2x2GB (MAYBE Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) Supplied with Airflow Fan)
- Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me which mobo is better and if its worth spending double the price for the dominator RAM, bearing in mind that i would like to save money if it wont make much difference.
Bearing in mind that i will be overclocking and adding a 2nd 4870.

Thanks in advance,

Flare :)

the asus p45 i would go for personally they are very nice overclocking boards, depending on how far you overclock would be dif between the ram i think unless you wanted to overclock the lower ram too. im using the dominators as they have nice passive heatsinks on them and stay cool even without using the fan which came with it.

looks good to me should add a decent cooler though if you plan on overclocking.

one for the cpu scythe ninja 2 perhaps?

and a new one for your gc if you plan on ocing that to an accellero?

so what about the mobo and the the ram?
both motherboards are pretty much the same price but the dominator RAM is £84 where as the other is £42...

ah yea forgot about that getting a nice CPU cooler. definately helps in keeping your chip cool when overclocking, you will need a thermal compound with that too like AS5.

yeah i have AS5 in my basket.
Im now just tryign to deicde between the 2 motherboards i've mentioned and the RAM i mentioned.
I have a rough idea of what CPU cooler i want

Btw, thanks for all the help people :)

just had a look at the biostar i would avoid that as it has an inbuilt fan on the NB which would block an aftermarket CPU cooler air flow, definately go for the asus for overclocking, much nicer overclocking board imo.

As with the ram if your going over 400FSB you would need to start overclocking your ram with the lower speed kit or playing with the dividers. If you know you want to go over that with your overclock and dont want to play with overclocking your ram or playing with ratios then go with the higher kit. The dominators do have nice passive heatspreaders to keep their heat down even without the air fan provided compared to the lower kit. If your sticking with low overclocks under 400FSB then the lower ram will be perfectly happy.

Q6600 has a 9x multi so 400FSB*9 is 3.6GHZ so if your aiming for 4GHZ which those chips can do i would go for the better ram.

it isn't inbuilt, it comes seperate. . .
"Biostar's TPower I45 comes with this screw-on MOSFET heatpipe heatsink for an extra cooling boost."

So if i'm aiming for over 3.5GHz go with the dominator, if not the lower ram will be fine?
I think i will just leave the dominator ram then and maybe upgrade in the future if i want to.
