Basically, after a couple of weeks of ooh and ahh, and recognising my complete incompetence when it comes to overclocking, think ive settled on the below:

Radon Intel Core i5 760 2.80GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle - Asus £399.98
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 480 SUPER OC 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £227.99
Antec TruePower New Modular 750W Power Supply - With FREE 3D Mark 2011 Advance £87.98

Quick questions:

- Will the PSU be adequate to run this, 2xSSD, 1 xHDD, 4xUSB peripherals and still have some overhead? Worked it out to about 600w but not sure.

- Will the fan on the Radon OC (Corsair A50) fit into an Antec 300 case? I read in the reviews its very tall.

- Was previously thinking of getting 2x5850 and CF them, but figure one card is better than 2 for the price difference? Plus I can get another 480 in the future as an interim upgrade.

- I want to run in 1900x1200 on a 27" (probably the cheapo hanns g), I figure this will do. however, how will it cope at higher resolutions in the event they ever sort out the dust issues in the Hazro wc?

Cheers.

the GTX480 is a power hungry card, but 650W should be enough, let alone 750. although, if you intend to use crossfire 480's then you will definitely want a bigger power supply to go with it (more than 750W for sure)

this should do you:

i would have said the 650W version of the PSU you originally had would be another option, but its more expensive than the 750W

have you considered going for a sandybridge setup?

Many thanks for the comments. more food for thought! Think ill take it away for another mull.

This is why i love these forums, thanks all.

Definitely go for the i5 2500k CPU over the older generation.

I'd consider going for 2 x 5850's over the 480, around the same price but the two 5850's in crossfire will perform much better. Even a 5870 at £150 is better value than the 480, only just behind it in performance. The 480 to me is too power hungry and can get quite hot, a powerful card but not what I'd consider at that price.

looking at those two bundles, im struggling to see why the asus version is so expensive. the only difference is the motherboard, and they both do crossfire properly

It is very strange now you mention it. You would have to speak to OcUK about the pricing. Something seems wrong with the pricing.

If you price up each bundle as to build yourself you get the following

Torosaur @ £390.68 vs Bundle price of £398.78 (on offer, normal price £419.98)

Allosaur @ £400.68 vs Bundle price of £489.98

The Torosaur offers great value considering its pre assembled, overclocked and has a full 12 Month collect and return warranty for an extra £8.12!:)

The Allosaur seems overpriced for some reason.

edit - price difference between the two mobo's is £9.99.
