Making a PC spec for a friend, thier use will be gaming and general use. No overclocking, no super demanding 3D programs. They will be playing the latest games though and want it to last a long time. I wasn't given a budget as such but the price does matter.

This is what I came up with:

Any suggestions to change anything?

Spend the extra £22 on an i5-2500K, with an unlocked multiplier, for big overclocks.

You'll probably get 4GHz with the stock cooler and more like 4.5GHz with a decent after market cooler.

The overclocking is extremely limited on the i5-2400.

I'm not a fan of the Hitatch Deathstars so I'd get a Samsung F4 2TB.

change the motherboard to either this one:

or this one if the Z68 features dont interest you:

gigabyte Z68 boards are pretty terrible, especially that one as its mATX, not full ATX, meaning going SLI in the future will be a bit of a pain.

also, do you really need a sound card? onboard sound has come on a lot these days, making a sound card only needed for real audiophiles and people who work with music

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA better HDD and cheaper.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS perfectly good ram and a bargain!

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat= perfectly sufficient to run all of that and more!

personally if your not overclocking then the Haf is a waste of money grab a cheaper case?? and if you do that you could afford a 2500k and a cooler on that budget and still have a good case....e.g:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-068-SV&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1092
or
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-161-AN&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=160

Both very good and way cheaper!

Thanks for the replies.

Didn't notice that RAM, good shout. Wasn't sure about the MB, changed it to the MSI one. Changed the HDD and PSU as suggested too.

About the case, I personally think it's worth getting a good case even if not overclocking as they are so much nicer to work with, but I just picked one that caught my eye at around £100. I'm going to reccomend that they do some research on cases and pick one they like.

About the CPU, since they won't be overclocking, will it even be worth getting the 2500k instead for the price? Will it perform any better with both at stock?

edit: and about sound card, yeah in my opinion they should get one it makes a noticable difference to me.

Also I forgot the OS before, added that too and updated spec:
