Been a while since I frequented these forums, and even longer since I kept up to date with the latest news around PC hardware.

I'm looking to build a rig for gaming (predominantly ARMA II, ARMA III (when released) and CS:GO)

I'm coming from; E6400, 4GB memory, GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB, slow HDD... so hoping to get quite a boost from upgrading!


Can people run their eyes over the following list and recommend alternatives where cheaper? Or alternatives where not a lot more money would get me a better spec. Want it small enough to take to LAN's (i.e. miniATX)

As the above recommendations, go for an i5/i7 Ivy Bridge system. It'll save you money and offer the same performance as X79 in gaming. Low profile RAM 1600MHz RAM with all in one water cooler (may be better than a large traditional cooler if your lugging the system around to LAN's etc). Cheaper SSD, Gigabyte Windforce GTX670. Better looking case IMO. Modular PSU, handy esp in a smallish case.
 
If you are going to be gaming then you don't need Sandybridge-E. A standard i5 Ivybridge will be more than adequate.
