Spec check please

I'm glad I don't need to spend the extra on a raid controller I just want to know if I can make any aspect of the system faster as I don't want to have to upgrade it for a while.

I would get some of the awesome Samsung Green ram. Much cheaper and tighter timings for a faster speed. They take a bit of tweaking to set up but even on a P55 chipset board i have mine running at 2000mhz. The price has increased nearly £30 over the pst couple of weeks though as i only paid £65 for my 16Gb kit.

Is there any RAM faster than the GEIL?

Being new to the PC building world i'm still a bit confused with mhz, latency, timings, memory channels etc and just want it to be as fast as possible within budget

You could get a pair of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-133-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387 for the same price which are faster.

Basically, the higher the MHz, the more speed, and as all DDR has the same bandwidth per stick it means more throughput, hence why you see 1600MHz DDR3 referred to as "PC3-12800", because its DDR 3 with 12,800MB/s throughput (DDR3 is 64bit, 64bits is 8 bytes, 8 bytes x 1600 = 12800 MB). For the Geil its 1866 x 8 = 14,928MB/s and for the Kingston I linked there its 2133 x 8 = 17064MB/s so it has more throughput per chip. Of course this is then multiplied by the amount of memory channels in use.

The response time is calculated by dividing the CAS latency (first number in the 11-10-11-24 type string) by the speed, i.e for the Geil its 10 divided by 1866 which is 0.0053590568060021 seconds. The Kingston I linked is 11 divided by 2133 which is 0.0051570557899672. So it responds faster and has more bandwidth per stick.

Yes I would ideally like 8gb sticks so I can have 64gb total.

Is there any cas latency 9, 2400mhz RAM avaliable in 8gb sticks? I couldn't see any but this would be faster wouldn't it?

For editing high resolution, high framerate and 3d digital video with heavy effects the more RAM the better in my experience.

Adobe cs6 supports up to 256gb of RAM with windows 8

I would like that much RAM if possible at the higher speeds. I have the budget and any increase in speed saves me time in my work which is a great help.

Thank for all your advice and help so far and your patience with my lack of knowledge
