Hi there, a friend recently approached me and asked for me to build him a new gaming rig, budget of around £1000 as he is currently in the process of selling his current PC.

He spotted the black and white mobo MSI recently displayed on their website and has decided to build his system around this (on a side note, anyone heard any news of when this is being released) and follow a black and white theme, and I've speced the following but I'm opening the floor to see if other people have any suggestions.

YOUR BASKET
1 x XFX Radeon R9 280X DD Black Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (R9-280X-TDBD) with FREE Kingston 60GB SSD £221.99
1 x Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £169.99
1 x MSI Z97 SLI Krait Edition Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Black / White Finish (KE-S32240-W) £109.99
1 x NZXT H440 Mid Tower Case - White £94.99
1 x SuperFlower Leadex GOLD 650W Fully Modular "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £83.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Fury White 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX318C10FWK2/8) £71.99
1 x Avexir Core White Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17200C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U21331104G-2CIW) - White Light £69.95
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 1 Year Warranty £59.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX) HDD £39.95
1 x BitFenix Alchemy Cable Bundle - White £21.95
Total : £1,071.26 (includes shipping : £13.75).

Obviously I've specced two sets of RAM, can't decide what set will look the best so I'm intrigued on everyone's opinion and will likely go with the general consensus. Also can't decide whether having the Kingston white SSD on show will look good or whether I'm better getting a Samsung drive and placing it in the back.

Should add my friend has said the colour theme is as important as the price, not looking for it to be incredibly cheap if the PC doesn't go together well.

Got it under budget, yours has 22 Memory sticks so not 100% sure whats going on there too.

8GB is enough, 290 is awesome, PSU is big enough for a 2nd card, h100i has issues with windows 8.1, and the h105 is better for cooling.

First of all, I have changed the case, but this can be reverted back and still price will be lower than your spec.
I managed to squeeze a 4790k and r9 290 in there. 290 comes with free 60GB SSD.
If your friend really wants NZXT 440 that's ok, but it will be hot inside the case.
440 is know for that, because it doesn't have good airflow from front of the case (because it's solid).
If it's about the PSU cover, nothing what few pieces of acrylic wouldn't fix :)
