Hey guys,

Well I've been eyeing up the market at late and catching up on todays hardware etc after having not upgraded for the past 3yrs (still on P4 :o) and I think I've narrowed it down to the following:

As you can see, I have not included a GPU in the spec as I' waiting on the 4870x2 boards.

...Will the 4870x2 fit in the P182?

Reason for including the Q9550 is I'm hoping it to encounter a price drop rather soon. (hoping it to half which should hopefully almost cover the cost of the GPU).
Have chosen the 1000MHz (PC2-8000) Ram as I'm hoping to get a 4Ghz clockspeed on the CPU.
(Looking to purchase in September at the latest really).

Ideally looking to spend £1000 tops
Main uses being PC gaming (FPS, Strategy, MMO) however gone Quad core to future proof somewhat.

I would be grateful if you could just look over the spec to see if it's all ok or if there's anything you would advise be changed.

Don't hold back :D

Thanks!

You'd need the Q9550 to more than half for it to cover the cost of a 4870X2 if it is priced anything like the 3870X2s on release. I think you might have to choose a 4870 if the £1000 is your max budget even accounting for price cuts.

Other than that it looks basically fine, most of the changes would come down to personal preference.

Cheers Semi.

Is there anything you reckon I could go cheaper on then to get a 4870x2 and Q9550 spec? Gone for some of the more expensive parts as was hoping for a good overclock or would it be better to go for a cheaper processor like the Q6600?

Time will tell what my exact spec will be in September with costs, but just trying to get a few ideas now.

Cheers

might be better going for something around the price of the current Q9450, Q6600 should do fine if you're looking to overclock, could save a bit of money with the memory as well.

anything on the pq5 deluxe that you need over the pro version ?

You could pick a cheaper P45 based motherboard and a cheaper case plus the hard drive will probably go down slightly in price but that is about it I'd guess. What size of monitor are you using to require a 4870 X2?

Not specifically, only that the deluxe has a 16-phase power design over the pro's 8. Afaiwa the 16-phase was more sought after when clocking quad-cores in order to get a more stable clockspeed.
If you reckon I could get decent enough on the pro I'm happy on saving the extra cash. :)

I'll be using a 24" gaming at native resolution.
Not too fussed on the case, could swap to a Antec 900.

Thanks for the help guys.
