Hello

I wish to build a new PC that will predominantly be used for general office purposes, 2D CAD plus video editing & conversion, photoshop etc.

I want 2x SSDs, one as an OS / app drive and the other as a fast scratch disk. I also want a large mechanical storage drive.

I will not be gaming on this computer but want a GFX card that has good price / performance for use of CUDA to help with video processing tasks. I will also be installing a Xonar Essence STX sound card from my old PC.

I also wish to overclock this rig.

No need for peripherals, just the tower and the OS.

I have come up with the spec below, please can you provide comments? I'm unsure if the cooler will fit in the case with the ram etc. Helpful hints / alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Budget is not fixed at £1500, happy to go over if price / permance comparison is worth it.

Thank you for your time,

If you're looking to spend £1500 then you can upgrade the SSD's to higher capacity or the GPU to something with more grunt but the system you seem to require is not a £1500 machine.

If we get one of the OCUK specmasters in here you'll be looking sub £1300

That is a superb starting point, that bundle is great value.

Those SSD's are mega value too. :)

Just adjust the case and add other bits and you're winning. :)

Though you could save money by getting a lower spec motherboard and PSU but it won't have the look you seem to be aiming for. :)

I'm wondering if LGA2011 would be of benefit with an Intel Xeon or 3930K as these applications are mostly CPU intensive..
.

It really depends how much and what resolution video editing is involved.

Most CAD systems (especially 2D ones are single threaded so a 'stronger' core is better but obviously rendering/video editing uses more cores/thread than 'core power'.

The 4930k would be ideal but that's a BIG chunk of the budget gone.
