Hi all,

It is time to realise my dream of 6 yrs to watercool my PC, now that I actually have a job to pay for it all:eek:

I want to cool the CPU and GPU in one loop in a 700D.

I've read a lot recently about the gear and technicalities as well as build logs but I still feel unsure about some aspects so would greatly appreciate any input into my choices and proposed methods.

Radiator: XSPC RX 360 or Thermochill 120.3

Fans: X3 Gentle typhoons (1450rpm) with 20mm shrouds in push config

Pump: Laing DDC 18W or Laing D5 vario

CPU block: Heatkiller Rev 3.0 775

Reservoir: XSPC Laing DDC res top or possibly an EK multioption

GPU block: EK fullcover; GTX 470 or GTX 480 (not decided on GPU yet!)

Fittings: Bitspower 1/4" -1/2" ID Matte black barbs

Tubing: XSPC 7/16" ID Clear UV blue or normal UV Blue

Water: Deionised with PT nuke and a silver coil

Questions:

1: What pump should I go for, I want it to be quiet and hear 18W DDCs' can sometimes make noise?

2: What reservoir; I have always liked the 'cylinder' type of reservoirs, it's what I associate when I hear 'water cooled pc' and i've always wanted one. However I realise the XSPC res top has great performance, is beginner friendly and eliminates one more point of failure.

3: T-line; as my first foray into this it seems wise to have a T-line in the bottom compartment of the 700D to drain the rig when needed. It's that or cut tubing off right?

4: Setup; I am not sure where to mount the pump and res. I could put the pump in the bottom section on its own if not using the XSPC res top. BUT if I use the res-top-combo, I would have to mount it in the main area so to speak. However I want maximal air intake into the case and would like to put two fans in those bottom spaces, so unsure at that point how to mount it and make it look 'cool', cylinder res's just look better for that IMO.

5: Should I set my loop up and then drain the water for a final flushing before filling up again with new water and adding the PT nuke?

Again I appreciate any answers to help steady my nerves! Gonna take a few days off work to put this all together so gotta get my order as right as possible!

Cheers

1. You can get a 10w pump if you think 18w will be loud. Or put the pump in a bay reservoir, water will drown out its noise

2.That reservoir should be fine, if you like it get it :)

3.If you have a reservoir, I personally do not think that you'll need a T-Line. Reservoir can be used to drain the system.

4. I'm not entirely sure, but just make sure that the res is higher than the pump. And make sure that the res is directly before the pump in your loop.

5.Well, when you first set up your loop, it should be okay to prime it with just distilled water. Make sure that you clean out the rad before hand though. Not sure if this answers your q though, sorry

4.

regarding flushing, i intend to clean out the rad before installing it but wondered if people flushed the entire system when installed before refilling it again to get rid of impurities?

Di-ionized (battery water) from halfords, or any where like that is good for flushing stuff out, 5 liters is about a fiver.

About a quiet pump, 12V Laing D5 Vario Pump is probably the best if u can strech to it, as u can set the speed.

I could go D5 and put it in the bottom compartment.

Anyone recommend a good pump top for it?

Sounds like i've run out of excuses now, gotta just go for it!

Check out this killer price lol on the heatkiller!

The 10W DDC is so cheap now?!

And It can be solder modded to 18W if I want more power? Though on only two waterblocks I should be fine right?

As for GPU, the 480 is nice but just insane pricing with a block its over £400, a liquid cooled GTX 470 can be put together for £300 now and with voltage tweaks and ocing will match the 480.
I want to try 3D so need reasonable GPU grunt
