I'm building a system for a friend. They'll be using it for music playing/editing (via Reaper etc) and also light gaming, general use. I've left the GPU out, but he'd be opting for a 970 at the most.

I want it compact and quiet.

  • I can't see much choice for Z170 mini-ITX or micro-ATX motherboards?
  • Is the DDR4 I've picked sufficient/compatible?
  • Is the PSU enough?
  • I'm open to suggestions.

Cheers

Err,

The SSD is not very good, Crucial BX100 or Samsung 850evo are better.

PCI soundcard on a board with no PCI slots.

You need to add a cooler.

PSU is plenty.

I'll swap out the SSD.
Soundcard - skoolboy error!
I've got a stock Haswell heat sink and might go for an AIO if noise gets annoying.

Cheers Stulid.

I ended up installing a SF 550 plus Gold as it was fully modular which was better for such a small case.

Can I double check, this PSU would be fine for a GTX 680? The Gigabyte website says minimum is 550w but I'm hoping they've been on the heavy side and there's some headroom?

Its fine.

They say 550W to accommodate the nasty 550W PSUs that can't deliver their rated power.

The PSU you have is a true 550W PSU with the correct amperage on the 12v rail.
