Hello OCUK,
Looking at my last pay-check it looks like I may have some money to spend. I've been tempted to spend it on a lot of things like an entry-level DSLR camera or even a drum kit but I honestly don't think I'll use those things as much as an upgraded computer
Over the last month I've been gauging prices and performance of certain processors and what not and today while I had some time I put a few components together. I don't need everything to make a computer, I recently bought an HD 5850, and I have a 700W PSU, case, monitor, peripherals, Windows 7 and everything else already. I just feel like scratching the itch to upgrade my CPU/Motherboard/RAM.
I put together the following components:
Since I've not really been paying attention to the scene since 2008 and therefore don't really know much about the latest hardware (Core i3/i5/i7 is kind of an iffy area in my knowledge as are motherboards) I'd like to know; What are your opinions of these components? Is there anything you would change? Would you go for an AMD alternative? Will this 2.8GHz Quad-Core offer much of an advantage over my current Intel C2D E8400 which isn't overclocked? I'm not really fond of overclocking so I'd prefer not to have to do it with my next processor.
I'll be mostly gaming on it as well as rendering a few motorsport videos and such like to keep my YouTube Channel alive, this will probably be my last ever proper upgrade and I'd like to be able to run games which come out a year or two in the future really well. Keep in mind I'd like to spend as close to £400 as possible although I may be tempted to stretch to £450 if something is really worth it.
Thanks and sorry for the long-ish post
