I need to upgrade OH's PC and replace my HTPC, so have come up with these builds. All good or should I swap this with that? :)

YOUR BASKET
2 x Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £247.99 (£495.98)
2 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £189.95 (£379.90)
1 x Gigabyte Z77MX-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £99.95
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £85.99
1 x Silverstone TemJin TJ08B-E Midi Tower Case - Black (SST-TJ08B-E USB 3.0) £83.99
2 x XFX Pro Series 650W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £74.99 (£149.98)
2 x Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (PVI38G186C9K) £53.99 (£107.98)
2 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99 (£59.98)
2 x LG GH24NS95 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £19.99 (£39.98)
2 x Akasa USB 3.0 internal adapter cable (AK-CBUB09-15BK) £5.99 (£11.98)
Total : £1,515.70 (includes shipping : FREE).

OH's PC will be keeping it's current case.
Will the Matterhorn fit into the TJ08B-E without hindering use of the HDD bays?

All advice appreciated. I may not be able to order today so could miss out on the 7.5% offer.

Cheers :)

Those builds look good...

Just to make sure, what is your current case?

I would swap the RAM for this (due to it being Low profile):

YOUR BASKET
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £47.99
Total : £51.90 (includes shipping : £3.26).

Being low profile means it won't interfere with the cooler..

You all good for Hard drives?

The TJ08-E will handle the Matterhorn fine with the drive bays in.. :)

The Matterhorn should not hinder any HDD bays.

Will your HTPC be used as a gaming machine aswell.

An external exhaust GPU would be wise. The Z77-D3H is a single GPU mobo, 650W is OTT for it, 500W would suffice.

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £251.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £189.95
1 x Gigabyte Z77MX-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £99.95
1 x Corsair Obsidian 350D Windowed Micro ATX Case - Black £94.99
1 x XFX 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Silver' Power Supply £83.99
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £47.99
1 x Thermalright Macho 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £830.83 (includes shipping : £12.50).

That's the HTPC I presume

YOUR BASKET

@Doomedspeed, have changed the RAM, cheers! I may need a HDD for OH's PC, which I have added to the cart also :)

@RJC HTPC will be used for gaming also yes. I am playing a lot more games through Steam on Linux with my desktop these days, so a decent on sofa gaming machine would be good :)

I use Linux on my desktop but am undecided as to whether I want to dual boot the HTPC. If I stick with the ATi card the box will have to be Windows only, at least for now. Else I'll have to spend another hundred on a 670 GTX!

I have also added to the cart an SSD for each of the machines.
While I poke around and ponder parts, I am wondering whether or not the TJ08 will look too big sitting next to the TV or even hiding behind it! What do you think?

As I said before Silverstone recommend an external exhaust GPU with that case. If you wanted to do Xfire then it becomes even more important as the GPUs will be so close together.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD250BW) ** Cash Back Promo ** £134.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £52.99
Total : £197.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

HDD has twice the capacity and more cache for not much more. The SSD is more money but again it has a higher capacity and you also get cashback on them ;)

@honosuseri sorry mate I didn't see your reply as I was still composing my post! :)
Seems the SSD's are £50 more but with £15 cashback that's not too bad! Cheers, changed!

I will change the GPU to an external exhaust for the HTPC. As I am considering the possibility of going for a smaller case, and as such perhaps even ITX, do you or anyone else have any thoughts on case/board/cooler?

Cheers!

Have decided to get a new case for OH as every component is being swapped out, it may as well remain as it is for use elsewhere or whatever :)

Order value has crept up with addition of bluray drive for the HTPC and the extra case etc! The site keeps throwing up an error when I try and add my debit card so it looks like I won't be able to order tonight :( I'll give OC a call in the morning though!

Dude!! Why are you paying more for the Bronze rated XFX PSU when I spec'd the silver rated one? ;) The Temjin really needs a PSU that is no bigger than 160mm which is why I used the Corsair 350D case instead. If you don't want the window then it's cheaper with the solid side panel.

There is THIS cheaper bluray drive which is still retail

I'd changed it in my basket after I copied it here! :p
Until I can add my card I can't order :( I'm not chancing moving that sort of money between accounts as I've known larger payments to fallback from FPS to regular BACS.
That and the motherboards aren't in stock with no date either...I want to build now!

I'll call OcUK tomorrow to plead for the discount but I doubt it'll be forthcoming hah

Thanks for all your advice all, I will update thread on purchase, perhaps even with build pics, though both PC's have ended up being the same aside from the optical drive :)

I don't like the temjin case. As I said the max recommended PSU size is 160mm (like the mini-itx Bitfenix prodigy), that XFX 750W is the most sensible one to buy for an Xfire rig but it's 170mm ish long if I recall.

Preorder prices are often lower than when they are in stock too ;)

What case would you suggest then mate? I don't want to go any bigger than the TJ08. I'd rather go smaller, especially with the HTPC, but without compromising on CPU/GPU OC.

I'd changed the spec from the core 550W to the XXX 750W simply because I may Xfire in the future. These rigs are unlikely to see much in the way of upgrades, especially with Haswell around the corner, so adding in another 7950 when they are cheaper down the line could always be an option.

That board is in stock elsewhere for a similar price so I'm not too worried about the prospect of the price being potentially lower now ;)

Case is a personal preference fella. The 350D is a little bigger but you don't have to make so many compromises with it. For small builds I usually do specs with the Bitfenix Prodigy. That only takes mini-itx mobos so Xfire is out of the equation. The mini-itx Z77N mobo is voltage locked so that limits the overclock potential sadly, you can still OC it just depends how good the CPU is, you do get onboard wifi with the mobo though.

Doomedspeed owns the TJ08. Maybe he can get a ruler out and do some measurements for you. The 750W PSU might well squeeze in but it butts up against the optical drive so I guess the length of that comes into play as to what will fit.

As you say it's a lot of poppy to throw at parts so you want to do it right. It's late and I have a headache so I'm signing off. You'll have to do a little homework on the web.....google is your friend ;)

All the best with the build bud :)

I sure do..

I also have this PSU: http://www.thinkcomputers.org/thermaltake-evo-blue-750w-modular-power-supply-review/

It's 160mm Long and fits in quite well (always better to do the PSU first). It is a bit of a squeeze with the OD bay, not helped by my HDD/SSD being up there too, but it fits pretty well.

The back has a lot of room for cable management, though a modular is well needed.

I don't think you'll get a 170mm PSU and a OD in there without a bit of force or modding.. Can't you find a 750W modular psu that's 160mm long?

I have: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-047-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

:)

EDIT: By the way, the TJ08-E is the smallest mATX case you can get that will support a long GPU and big air cooling. Great case, the 350D is temping but is a fair bit bigger.
