Hey i was asked by a friend to spec a system for him and this is what i have come up with.

I would like to know other peoples opinions on my choices as i have been out of the hardware loop for some time now. The monitor needs to double as a screen for a PS3. I know this one doesn't support 1:1 pixel mapping but does it really make that much of a difference?

Spend a bit more and go i7 and i have changed the monitor to a 24" Samsung as quality will be better:

^ this will cost aroun £110 more but you have i7 920 which with a decent cooler u can get to minimum of around 3.8Ghz overclock usually, 3GB of tri channel 1600mhz and least your on the latest high end stuff

As i said been out the hardware loop for ages.. last time i check scythe ninja was the business when it came to coolers. Choose that one as my experience with AC has been pretty good when you consider their cost! Would be hoping to get upwards of 3.2Ghz out of it tho... might have to look in too some case fans also.

I should have mentioned he said that anywhere around £1300 is ok too go for.

if he is surely he would need some more case fans maybe a few noctuas?

why you asking me i aint got the answer back yet lol :D

ok so if you got abit extra overhead to spend... 500gb harddrive, some noctua fans lol, and upgrade sounds to a slightly better version of the logitechs.. :) up to you looks pretty good to me

k well some tr3x6g1600c9 in and a 4870x2 :) and that rig will handle anything also a nice cooler for the cpu will help you get a nice OC, maybe swap the board for the biostar Tpower as aparently they overclock theere nutz off :)

Thanks for the advice think i might use the i7 spec but imo the 4870x2 will be a waste. Be better to save for a next gen graphics card.

This is what i have come up with now thanks to your help:
