Spec check thread #32656 - Ordering today!!!

Okay guys - cost isn't an issue, but value and cost-effectiveness IS. Potentially ordering this weekend (if fact most likely), so I'd just like some comments on this. It will be used with a Dell 2007WFP natively and want to use it for games Crysis and ^ at pretty much full detail, smoothly:

C2D e6700
Gigabyte DS3P
GeIL 2GB ULL kit
BFG 8800 GTX OC
Corsair 620w PSU

I've thought about going for an e6600 and an 8800 GTS OC2 - would this be cutting corners (thinking with forsight) or would it still be sufficient for the desired scale of my system? I won't be overclocking straight away (I never plan to OC at all tbh), but will probably end up doing that later.

TVM!

E6700 doesn't give much benefit over the E6600 apart from a slightly faster clock speed. I think the opinion in here, is that its not worth the price over the E6600. For cost effectiveness clock up the E6600 as it will easily run at E6700 speeds and above (I have mine at 3.0Ghz just on air and the fan barely moves in my tuniq).

Mmm I tend to agree. The e6700 is about £50 more but it's come down loads this week - probably why I'm looking at it.

My cooler will be a Scythe Ninja - should I get similar results to the Tuniq?

I don't think the Ninja is quite on a par with the Tuniq, but the difference will only be a couple of degrees c. I'd agree with the E6600, and with regard to the 8800, go for the GTX if you don't want to upgrade it soon, or if you aren't interested in the R600. I went for the 8800 GTS 640Mb but that is because I will probably sell it and get the R600 or the next Nvidia graphics card when it comes out.

I would go for TeamGroup 2x512mb DDR2 800 TXDD1024M800HC4 if you can find it.Mate ordered some for his C2D pc and raves about it.

Yeah I'm definitely going for the 6600 now.

Would want 2Gb of RAM, but have heard that Team is quite pricey for little gain in performance - anyone else have thoughts on that (or the GeIL) RAM?

Incidentally, I'm aiming for a relatively quiet system - how are the GTXs for noise?

I'm expecting faster but didn't know they were going to be cheaper.

They are said to be providing slightly-better-than-GTX performance at GTS prices. You can verify that in the "Gibbo is getting an R600" thread in the Gfx forum.

Ordering today guys - here's the pretty much final spec:

C2D e6600 (definite)
GeIL 2GB DDR2800 Ultra LL Kit (definite)
Gigabyte DS3P (ignoring the cost increase, would it be a bad idea to go for a DS4 instead?)
Corsair HX620 (definite)
Noctua NH-U12F (can't decide between this, Tuniq and Scythe)
2 x Noctua NF-S12 (definite)
BFG 8800 GTX OC (definite)

Last minute changes still accepted on the ones above I'm not sure about! :)

So yey or ney?

P.S. This is all going with my existing PC7 case with some WD Caviars and an IDE DVDRW
