Spec check.... What do you Think

I really want a bit of future proofing for a few years. Would you Recomend me changing the GPU to a 5850 or something like that. or just change the motherboard and stick with the 460

there's two options here.

buy a 890GX chipset motherboard and change the gpu to a 5850, which will allow crossfire later at 8X/8X for each card, then just buy a secondhand 5850 later on.

or

pick the board I linked too, and up the graphics card to a GTX470 which are bargains at the moment, with no option of dual gpu in the future as sli and AMD chipset motherboards is a no go.

there's also the issue of getting the 1090 CPU, its a lot of money and OTT for your needs, a 955be CPU will be fine.

I agree with waynes spec all apart from the GPU, the 1gb versions will be far better for a monitor of that size/res.

So might aswell put this into the basket, arguably the quietest and coolest running 460

Now after saying that i do love the OP's spec, but for his needs it is totally overkill, and waynes spec is far more sensible for his needs.

Which ever the OP goes for, i would still advise to get the gigabyte 460.

The extra memory will help at high res's, not to mention the 1gb model has a better memory interface.

GTX 460 768MB Memory Interface: 192-Bit
GTX 460 1024MB Memory Interface: 256-Bit

So in turn offers more bandwidth on the memory, which aids when gaming at high res. I know he says he only games once a week, kinda like me really, for only £33 more he would be getting arguably the best 460 on the market atm, when it comes to noise and heat.

I know it really would make a massive difference gaming wise really, but noise wise defiantly.

Put it this way im kinda like the OP, i generally surf the web whilst im F@H on my cpu, and maybe once a week game for abit, and the only 460 i would get is the gigabyte one, infact im planning to as will be nice for F@H too lol.

But in all honesty either version of the 460 will be good, and a nice boost to gaming, i just know that the gigabyte one is cool running and quite compared to some of the others, dunno if the OP would be bothered about that or not though.

are the power leads of a ocz psu at 18" in lenght long enough to thread through the cable management holes of a case as big as a HAF X.

Dunno can allways use extension cables, i have to on my 8pin cpu power cable for my HX650, not ideal, but theres always a way lol.
