I'm about to build a new computer. I've scavenged a DVD Multiwriter and a couple HDDs from an old computer, but the rest I'm buying new. I was wondering if anyone knows if any of the following items have compatibility issues, whether they are good components and whether they are good bang for buck. I'd rather not spend extra money uneccesessarily for very litttle benefit.

I'm welcome to entirely new suggestions about parts and set up.

CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 ~£155
or Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 ~£213

CPU cooling:
Titan Vanessa L ~£36
or Zalman CNPS7700 CU ~£37

Motherboard:
MSI 975X Platinum PE ~£123
or MSI S775 Intel P965 ~£100

Memory:
OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 533 CL3.0 ~£167
or Ballistix 2x1GB DDR2 667 CL3.0 ~£179

GPU:
256MB X1950 PRO ~£133
or 256MB x1900 XT ~£164
or 256MB X1950 XT ~£183
or 512MB 7950 GT ~£186
or 512MB 7900 GTX ~£187

PSU:
Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R ~£65

Case:
Antec Nine Hundred ~£75

Thanks in advance for any help

Any particular reason for the choice of

motherboard (it has good compliance but is it particularly feature rich compared to competitiors? and I heard the GA-965P-DS3 has poor performance and overclocking ability),

RAM (why choose the lower speed RAM - is it not worth getting 5300/5400 or 6400 or higher?)

and GPU?

I'd go for the 6400 C2D - given the very easy o/c available on it, there are lots of threads on the very marginal gaming advantage of going for the 6600 (I am sort of assuming that this is a gaming rig :))

I'd also be careful about the scavenged HDDs. If you check out Toms Hardware and other benchmarking sites which I can't mention since I think they do include advertising, you can see that there are significant differences in real-world performance. Given that 7200 16Mb cache drives are quite cheap now, just be careful not to skimp on this.

Anyway, my 2p's worth

The disks I was planning on scavenging are relatively new, one 320gb 7200 16MB cache, and one 200gb 7200 that I'm not sure of the cache of. And as I'll be spending ~£750 anyway I may get a 74gb Raptor. The "old" PC is only about 2 years or so old but the mobo or CPU has gone so I'm replacing it.

Also I'm guessing people agree 500W is more than enough for that system spec
