The otherhalf wants a desktop PC, as she currently uses a old acer laptop for work/gaming but its lacking pretty bad. Her budget is £700/800. So far i have come up with this, not sure if the mobo is an overkill though just thought it would be alright for overclocking and maybe SLi if she wanted at later date.

Most of it seems pretty good, not sure what the monitor is like though. I would change the graphics card, the 8600 is rubbish, get an X1950 pro instead. They only cost £10-15 more and are worth the extra. Might want to think about some different ram if its going to be used to play games. Just noticed you have some room in your budget, if you can stretch to the 8800 GTS 320mb I would recommend it, much better than the card you have in your spec or the one i suggested above.

Also, if you are going to be overclocking it would be wise to go for an aftermarket cooler.

Yeah was looking at the GTS just with VAT/Shipping its £690 and thats without a case she wants a case from else where thats £65. is the 8600 really that bad?

In that case then i'll look around for something else, I dont think i'll be able to up the RAM as it is a tight budget.

drop vista for the card and use the os from her laptop... vista is somthing that can be added on later after all the guinnie pigs have sorted it out for us mere mortals
