Hey guys, got my rig all up and running and its great so i really appreciate all the input that i had when i needed it :)

My friend is now looking to upgrade too and we have specced this up but would appreciate any info on it and ways to improve it.

Just unsure that the case is okay? Would the psu that comes with it power the rig and is the case big enough for the components? Also unsure about the motherboard? Any ways to either improve the performance or same performance for a reduced price would be appreciated guys, budget of £1k max but lower we can get it the better.

Hey :)

two Q's ... Are you going to Overclock ? / Whats the machine used for ?

and straight away i'd like to say, you dont need the Sound card :)

Its for gaming, he wont be overclocking it.

Got the soundcard as went for a value mobo in the spec and wasnt sure if the sound was any good, although the speakers would hardly make the most of a good sc anyhow.

Well its a cheap soundcard, and those speakers will not benefit from anything great. The onboard 7.1 HD surround sound drivers should be quite ample :)

Lets see what have you spent there... About £990 ?

If you want a gaming machine, i would recommend not going for the Q6600, especially if your not going to overclock.. you would benefit from a Wolfdale... So maybe an X38 Motherboard... Will get a spec drawn up... for a guideline.

Change the Keyboard and Mouse to suit your tastes... if you go for a laser mouse, i wont require a Mouse mat.... I recommend logitech too, never have problems with it.

You could get the cheaper wolfdale 2.66Ghz - saving £23
Gone with a Tuniq, to keep temps down, but if your not gonna oc at all, a AC 7 Pro may just do the trick saving some money there too ! - Saving £15
Changed your graphics card to a gainward, rather than POV... just preference as you dont see much POV stuff about, but stuck with GT assuming you like Nvidia.... would also Recommend the Ati 3870 XT.

Wasn't too sure about your case... Changed it to a larger case with more room, and very good cooling.. Ideal for future expansion too as it can fit 2 x High end Cards in there...

This memory is cheaper and will free up 2 DIMM slots for future expansion if you should so wish, made possible by the X38 Motherboard going up to 8GB of Mem and supported by Vista x64

You left out the OS in the original spec, so added Home Premium x64 bit

Also you may want to look around at different monitors... the Samsung is a good one for sure, but adds to the price. However, if you do want a 22" with 1680x1050, u may look at Cibox to save some money, i have 6 of these, all running for 6 months so far and very good.

Ive got that case with full ATX board and a 8800GT and it all fits fine got the tuniq tower in there too and it all fits with plenty of room

No problems with the PSU either, its all very quiet. The piano black is a fingerprint magnet tho

Shame its not running at the moment. Need another 775 CPU to update bios.

The case it a steal for £80, quality PSU, not too bad looking and has some nice little features on it. Bit silly the the HDD light and power on light are the same colour

it seems decent, just thought it was a wee bit small, but know i know!:)

Someone should be able to help you with that update.

hows this. you could knock like £60 off, for the kb.m and ut in your personal choice, but this it what i would go for.

also, the monitor i suggested has a better response time, and its aesthetics are better :P
