Right i have priced up a spec below for my parents as they finally accepted that they need a new pc. The PC is mainly going to be used for working on word documents and stuff, but needs the power for when my dad and brother decide they want to play games(i.e cod4)

I know i havent included a motherboard, as i am selling them mine and getting a new one myself, and there is no optical drives cause the ones they have got atm will do them fine. Any help to improve this spec would be great but i dont want it to go over £500

any reason you've gone for vista 32 bit over winxp home ?

corsair 450w or similar would be ok for that system.

gksill or geil memory is cheaper and runs just as well.

I went for vista, as my parents tend to want to get the latest version of an operating system out. and they normally only buy a new pc every 5 years so i thought that support might last a lot longer

i'd go with the 64bit version unless they have specific software or hardware that isnt 64 bit compatible (digital cameras etc).

I would much rather pay an extra £7-8 for this hard drive:

It's got more GBs of space, and double the L2 cache of the one you have selected. Well worth it for the extra couple of quid.

I heard the one i got selected there is faster than that and is more than enough space for them anyways.

i'd go with the 64bit version unless they have specific software or hardware that isnt 64 bit compatible (digital cameras etc).

i might actually do that seeing as it is same price, the digital camera you can just plug in and it works

The microsoft has announced that they will continue to support windows XP till 2014 to give most companies some time for upgrade.

The only reason I would ever go vista is for DX10. Causes more problems than helps.

And it will run **** slow on 2gb ram and E2200 ;-).

You could save 4quid on memory, another few on PSU and get 4gb of RAM.

Also I would go with E2180 - they clock better than 2200.
