Hi,

I'm pretty familiar with PCs but never built one before. I've listed the spec I'm considering building below (plagiarised from a recent post). If anyone can spare the time to review it and raise any issues or compatibility problems I'd much appreciate it.

As this is my first build is there anything a newby should be aware of? It seems its a case of just plugging everything, arranging the cables neatly and loading up a OS? Or am I assuming this is easier than it actually is?

Also, as I'm using the machine for gaming mainly is it worth purchasing dedicated keyboards and a mouse - I don't mind paying the extra money if the benefits are justified. Finally, do I need a blue ray or just a dvd and can anyone suggest a decent one.

Thanks,

gee

Welcome,

The process is pretty simple. There are videos everywhere.

The only 'not stupidly easy bit' is putting the cpu in, but that's not too tricky.

In your spec:

The case is really big and expensive for what it offers.

There is very little difference between the gtx 680 and gtx 670, so why not save a bit.

850W for SLI and it's cheaper than yours too. :)

Got a cheaper keyboard, still mechanical and highly reviewed, mouse to match.

Water coolers arent as good as big air coolers.

Found some stupidly cheap/fast RAM. :)

Thanks for your suggestions doomedspeed. I'll check out those components and modify my shopping list.

Just one quick question. I was under the impression (a few people who have built pcs before have told me this) that water cooling is much more effective than fan cooling. Although you say the opposite. Hmmmm, not sure which cooling system to get in that case.

Damn. When i picked the ram i had the h60 in my basket, changed at the last minute.

Stulid is right. Low profile RAM is the way to go with air coolers.
