2 weeks ago I had posted on these forums for a friend that wanted to purchase a PC.
Today he's finally going to order the components.
He wants to spend around £860 excluding shipping.
The PC will be used mostly for gaming.

This was the spec that we had chosen. Would appreciate comments and suggestions about our choice, or if need be, a comletely different bundle of components!

Thanks in advance!

All looks good to go, if there any chance he may want to add another 670 in the future it mite be worth getting a motherboard that supports SLI.

Nice rig, if it was me makin a rig for gaming I would be interested to know which gfx card is the sweet spot with that CPU, then budget for that card and save, and upgrade later.

Gaming is all about gfx grunt, leave off non-essentials, use the hdd add the ssd in the future, use the stock cooler and add a uber one later as minor upgrades.

This enables you to eek out all the performance from your rig, would be interested to know that the pros suggest would be the gfx card that maxes that CPU out. :). Gtx680, or beyond, and are you 1080p or more, jpod

I'd much rather have an SSD and a mid range card, than no SSD and a high end card.

Depends on the games I guess, but an SSD makes a world of difference all round.

Thanks a lot! I'll be staying with what I posted but replacing the RAM with the 2400Mhz ram which is at the same price!

The monitor will be 1920x1080 @jpod

Do you think it will be worth ditching the CPU cooler to get this motherboard which MireMare suggested?
I'm quite sure he won't overclock, so I don't think it'll be needed.

Thinking about it, if I get the 4670 and no aftermarket CPU cooler, there will be £50 extra to be spent on something else, what do you guys think?

Edit: Or else he can just save them to buy a few games!

The RAM suggest is high profile so won't work well with big air cooler (though it should be fine with the likes of the matterhorn), just something to bare in mind if he may upgrade the atall.

A CPU cooler is good more improving temps and cutting down on noise. The matterhorn will be perfect for this.

If you are 100% sure he won't overclock you may aswell get a H87 motherboard and 4670 (non-k) saving even more money, then you may be able to stretch to a GTX 770/GTX 680 (maybe not), or a case with a window. :)

Gigabyte has fantastic service just like OC's, all the best with your build and why not post some pics of the project?

Not a bad spec, think I may have had a part in it, correct me if I'm wrong lol

He might as well leave the option open to OC so when the machine begins to show it's age he can ask a little more from it. Read reviews and it's pretty common to see the i5K @4.6Ghz, it's not difficult to do at all and the mobo will have an auto option. If you like the idea of being able to run dual GPUs we can work something out......

The 7870LE is related to the 7950 being a Tahiti core too. These GPUs OC well to do a good impersonation of a £240 GPU. Not saying the 670 is a bad choice just pointing out he can get good bang for buck with the 7870LE
