Hi,

I have been using a 2012 MacBook Air, however now that I have a permanent residence (Rather than living the student life!) I am thinking of getting a rig...I admit I do play a bit of Counterstrike Source ... that is probably the only game but please do let me know if I should make any changes - Should the processor be sufficient or is there a major difference between an i5 Skylake and this i3 Skylake?

Otherwise, I just do the normal Office / Web Surfing. I already have a 24" Samsung Monitor, G402 Logitech Mouse and Keyboard.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £550.19
(includes shipping: £12.30)

Thanks!

Will it be just the odd game or two and I'm guessing at 1080p... Also do you need OS?

You could save a fair bit of money by ditching the i3 processor and getting the Pentium G4560... with the extra cash put it towards a better PSU..

Hi - Yes just the odd game or two - How sufficient is the system above, good enough for Counterstrike Source on max settings at 1080 I assume? - I probably will stick with the i3, and get another PSU if it just is another £20. - What do you suggest? - How strong is the above system compared to a MacBook Air from 2012 - Fly past it I assume?

I think you'll find it will fly through CSGO with no problems... Comparing it to you Macbook air I think the above system has a lot more Umph to get you through most games on a decent enough setting...

This PSU will be ideal

Thank you - is there much difference between i3 Kaby Lake vs Sky Lake as they are sitting at the same price?

Kabylake is a few % faster but the motherboard is more expensive, the real bargain is the G4560 it will virtually match the 6100 but no stock at the moment. So much choice

The h110 motherboard needs a bios update to take the kabylake cpu so stick with the skylake cpu or get the b250 motherboard

Cheers! Changed back to Sky Lake - No major upgrades coming over the next few months which will totally wipe this set up in this <£600 price range?

Also changed the SSD for the WD one you picked - Saved £40! - Original post updated - Solid rig I assume for 2-3 years?
