I seem to remember there being a website which had some Java applet or a Flash object that measured up your PCs specs and compared them with games which were either out or were coming out, but have forgotten where this website was. Can anyone help me out here?

I don't think it was that, it was not a whole website devoted to it, it was kind of part of some games website. Thanks for the time and effort though, much appreciated.

It uses the same backend as the one given above written by Futuremark of 3dmark fame

No MS had a game rating thing that analysed your PC and then told how certain games would play against it.
