I'd say the Sempron 2800 is letting it down if hes going to do some gaming...

Its a poor chip - try stretching the budget to include a A64 3000.

Maybe use the money from the second DVD drive towards it? Doesn't seem to be much need for that unless he's going to be doing some serious copying...

The upgrade path on that spec isn't good either - but if thats all your friend is going to be using it for then i don't suppose it matters too much.

i would change for an Asrock 939 dual SATA 2 motherboard £46 inc vat
AMD venice core, 3000+ cpu (pick them up second hand now for around £70)

advantages are, 1 venice cores overclock stupidly (should he ever want to try :) )

2 you get socket M2 support (theres an extra socket on the mobo, lets you buy an extra card with an M2 cpu socket and DDR2 ram sockets, v useful)

if he doesnt mind, mix the build up with some second hand parts to keep the cost down, i.e. cpu, graphics, ram,
