Hi,

A frined of mine want's to upgrade his system for around the £200 - £250 mark, and would like the price to include a new mobo, cpu, ram and graphics card. So far we have come up with the following:

OcUK GeForce 9800 GT 512MB SILENT GDDR3 HDTV/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £74.99 (£88.11)

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £41.99 (£49.34)

MSI P31 Neo2-FR Intel P31 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £39.99 (£46.99)

GeIL 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz Black Dragon DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GB24GB6400C5DC) £49.99 (£58.74)

We think this is a pretty good setup so far, so basically we just want confirmation that it is a good choice, or any areas that can be improved / saved on.

Thanks for any help.

I'd add an aftermarket cooler as that chip can clock well over stock. As for the GPU I'd say go for a 880GT or try find a second hand one.

Ahh okay, might be worth a look as most people quite easily get 3Ghz out of it which is quite a lot of extra power for games :)

Yeah plus it would bottleneck that card a little bit.
Also some more details would be good like what games and what resolution if games at.

Something maybe like that. You could drop the CPU down for maybe the E2180 but personally it is worth the extra 9 quid for wolfdale and slightly higher stock speed.
Also 4GB would be a huge advanatge for games.
Best option is to sell his old stuff for some extra cash and/or look for some second hand stuff in the members market.
Also you should overclock, who doesnt like free?

He probably won't be using it for gaming, mainly web browsing etc. nothing too processor intensive. He is just fed up of his current setup being slow as it's a few years old now.

I would think that gaphics card would last a while as it more that suitable for basic desktop browsing.
Also i put the cooler in there just so it can be overclocked in the future for some performance.
