Hi there.

a friend asked me, what he could get for £500.. he needs a whole new setup including monitor. It will be used for gaming ofcourse hehe. I thought I would bring it to the professionals to help me with this one. :D

Cheers!

Bump the budget up to 600.

ill see if he can do that, but what can people come up with, from say <500 and then 500-600.. just so I can show him the other routes. Thanks, if that isnt too much to ask.

This is about as close to the budget as I'd realistically like to go, it still doesn't include an OS, since you didn't mention one I assume your friend must already have one.

I had a talk with him and he is willing to pay around £550, although he already has a case, DVD-RW, keyboard, mouse, Gfx card and OS, so that isnt needed. I did come up with this little list, I would like your opinions, please.

Well if you are getting a motherboard based on the 945 chipset then I rather suspect that OCZ Special Ops Ram is overkill since I don't believe that the 945 chipset is good for overclocking, being somewhat of a budget chipset so the cheapest Ram is going to be OcUK PC6400.

I would also swap the PSU for something different although that PC isn't hugely demanding so you might not need the Corsair. :)

True enough, although I chose the Ram and PSU, as in the future he might have enough money, so can swap out the motherboard for a DS3 or something better, i guess.

How about getting a cheapo OCUK 1Gb PC6400 with a 965P-S3?? Essentially the same as DS3 but without solid capacitors.

Really not sure about hiper, I'd seriously consider OCZ modstream 520W instead.
