Spec for a new build

Hey after being out the scene for a while I've decided to upgrade current I have a quad core extreme 8gb ddr2 ssd corsair 120gt and a 850 psu corsair modula and a 560ti the CPU is on water and oc ed

Looking to spend 600 on a CPU and mb and ram so what do you guys suggest ? If it could be sli it would be a plus as ill throw in another560 if needed but ATM I don't game much sadly but should change soon looking for raw power and speed ATM tbh

What do you use the pc for mainly? I know you said you don't game a lot at the moment, but is there anything in particular you use it for? As in video editing or anything like that?

As if you're into all that an i7 could be beneficial, but if not then Idleman's build looks good

Cheers for the suggestion looks nice and much cheaper than I thought !

I use the pc for a lot of uni work, with my final year coming up I thought of a new pc, will be using it as a server to test out a few things and get to grips programming a server, also be testing out a few security policies, a lot of programming in c++ and java and if time allows a few odd games and streaming films
