I've cross graded to different recording software (Studio One) and i think its time for a new computer as i'm still on a P4 machine. This machine will be for music production only, no games or gizmos, just multi track recording and some midi..
I was thinking of going down the AMD route as i didn't really want to pod out a fortune for an i7 setup.
I have a 500W psu and an M Audio 2496 soundcard to re.use.....So where would you go from here?
Is it possible to take an el cheapo case and do some sound proofing yourself?
O.k. guys over to you........

main noise will be from the components rather than the case, what sort of budget have you got to work with ?

as long as the case has decent airflow you can undervolt any fans, suspend the hard drives, maybe worth ssd for your system disk if budget allows, passive gfx card or onboard.

How much are you willing to spend? You can get this for 300 quid. This will be perfect for what you wanna do if you can't spend too much.

Is it possible to build a decent machine for under £500? I could push that up a bit if needs be.
I should add that i have a couple of hard drives to perhaps re use, a 75 and a 150 GB and a dvd drive.

Great info, i didn't realise you could build a machine for that sort of money, the Asus P4 i built and have now for a DAW cost £800 in its day. I suppose that AMD board would take the new Phenom AMD cpu's?
Thanks

After finally installing my new software on my old P4 i was wondering if it was worth pushing the boat out for an higher spec machine than the one speced above(or will that do all i need). I still fancy going with the AMD route but something with more Horsepower, what would you suggest, motherboard cpu, memory?

if you can afford too i'd go with the phenom II quad core Ryan listed and stick with the rest of Ast3r's original spec.

Great thanks.........
I'll go with the Asus M4a78lt and the Phenom 11 x4.......May need a new p.s.u as this one has the old type connectors, or is there a conversion for the connectors?
