Spec for game development with low noise

Hello guys.

Last time I custom built a PC was around 15 years ago, so I'm a little behind to the new tech to say the least :D
My new PC will be focused on game developing and 3D modeling, not much gaming itself in fact, but of course I will test my games and eventually play some other ones.

My budget is around 2.500 euros(I live in Holland) but I'm willing to go a bit higher if necessary, my goal is the best performance within that price range with the lowest noise possible, definitely don't want all those fans/memory/cables that glows inside the tower :D

This is what I'm thinking about:
- GeForce RTX 3080.
- 32gb DDR4 (probably will expand to 64gb in the future).
- 2x 1TB SSD.
- 850w power supply.
- For the processor I have no preference between AMD or Intel, but following the Unreal Engine specs they recommend Xeon, what do you guys think about it ? Xeon is a big step in price, not sure if in real life it will be that much of a difference from a i9 for example.
- Motherboard will depend on the processor.

As I mentioned, noise is a big factor for me, should I go for water cooling for quietness ? I will not overclock, so if I can keep it quiet with fans, I prefer.
What do you guys think ?

Cheers!

Hi

There are new cpu released today by Amd and the 5900x fits in your budget if you can't get one the 3900x , they are both 12 core cpu' s.

M2 look at the Adata XPG SX8200 Pro M.2.

64gb of ram is within your budget.

Case is a of bit of a personal choice but just picked a quite base.

850w psu is enough for your system but if you can get this in your country for s good price
PHANTEKS REVOLT PRO 1000W 80 PLUS GOLD

Dark rock pro 4 is a top end quiet cooler.

CODE My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £2,162.07 (includes shipping: £13.20)

Talking about SSD... is there much difference between brands for 1tb ?
There can be in terms of speed and warranty but in day to day tasks no diffrence. As for your specific needs you would have to look into that.

Compare the adata I sugested to the one in the spec both are the same price, I know which one I would choose.

There is also pcie4 v pcie3 m2 , pcie4 offer faster speeds but cost more but if fastest data transfer between drives is needed then you have to way up the pros and cons. The adata I sugested hits pcie4 speeds at lower cost therefore better price to performance ratio.

@André Silva the b550 motherboard is a nice board but you would have to compare features between the 2 .

The x570 motherboards offer more pcie lanes so if your using 2 x m2 this will have less affect on the gpu bandwidth.

Read some reviews on the motherboards so you can make an informed decision.

There are many cases to choose from May be a case with a side window if you like . No rgb lights

Hey @mickyflinn , a small update:
I got the Ryzen 5900x, should arrive this week!
One question about the cooler: I decided to go with the MSI X570 Tomahawk motherboard but instead of the bequiet cooler I wanna go for the Noctua NH-D15-Chromax Black. At noctua website(https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15-chromax-black) it says that the memory stick should be a maximum of 32mm height, but most of places I'm looking for don't tell the height of the memory stick, not even on Corsair website... do you know where can I get that info ?

the vengeance lpx units are low-profile sticks with a height of only 31 mm and you could always move the fan up a couple of mm

Changing my idea for cooling for a bit... talking about water cooling, which one would you recommend for the 5900X ? Let's say that I decide to overclock it in the future.
Is https://www.overclockers.co.uk/nzxt-kraken-x73-aio-cpu-water-cooler-360mm-hs-01l-nx.html a good choice ? Also interested in the https://www.overclockers.co.uk/arct...ormance-cpu-water-cooler-420mm-hs-07m-ar.html

I'm willing to go up to 250 euros for it if necessary, not sure if a higher price point will mean a better cooling.

No the arctic is bigger, has athicker radiator and offer excellent value. There is the 360 mm arctic which will be the same size as the Nxzt.
Talking about size... I expected the Arctic 360 to me 360mm, but checking their page(https://www.arctic.ac/en/Liquid-Freezer-II-360/ACFRE00068A) it says that the radiator is a size of 398mm, not 360. The same applies for the 420mm, in their page it says 458mm for the radiator.
Does this mean I would need a case of size 420 to fit this "360mm" radiator

The extra size you mention is for the fittings at the end of the radiator. The 360mm is the cooling area and where 3 x 120mm fans are placed.

If a case says it supports 360mm radiators then you want a 360mm cooler and forget the extra length This applies to all sizes.

The thickness of radiatorsis slightly diffrent as some cases only support up to a certain thickness.

Hmmm... so in this case, for the Arctic 360 I indeed need a case that can fit a 420
