He has my old PC. A phenom II x2 at 3.6GHz, 4GB of RAM and an SSD. He says it crashes (might be the overclock) and is slow in general and wants me to get him something newer.

I'm not sure if i should be looking at i3 9100 /3400G (I.e. Quad core) or the next rung up i5 9400 / r5 3600?

All he wants it for is office tasks and browsing / 1080p YouTube. 8GB of RAM and Windows 10.

I'll probably get him an Matx or itx build with a 120GB m.2 ssd. Much better than my old, giant, hot, loud, inefficient phenom PC.

What spec would you recommend for a Budget of say 250 for CPU RAM Mobo and small capacity m.2 SSD.

If its just browsing and YouTube etc I'd just get a cheaper B450 board, Ryzen 3200G, 8GB RAM and a small SSD

The 3200G will do the job just fine and is only £80 with integrated graphics, especially with a budget around £250
