Hi there, just sort of found out about overclockers and hope to be buying a PC sometime next week.
Basically, a couple of months ago, we had a powercut/surge and something inside my old family computer shorted out and now it doesnt work. I managed to salvage some of parts, I now use the harddrive in a caddy on my laptop and some of the other components still work perfectly.
So, yeah, I'm buying a barebone system and using a combination of new parts and some parts salvaged from my old PC. (Harddrive)
Here's the stuff so far:

  • Vintage V3-M3N8200 Barebones System - AMD64
  • AsusAMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200 2.70GHz
  • OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Series(I have another one of these at home, so it will amount to 4gb.... i think:P)

As I'm new to this, I was really hoping for some advice. I want to use the PC for like regular PC stuff, music recording (I have a home studio setup) and some basic gaming like WoW, Tf2 and AOE3.

Finally (sorry, kinda nooby xD), I have a few questions. Is the intergrated Graphics card on the Nvidia 8200 motherboard any good, if not, what sort of graphics card is decent and good value (I have a low budget) and also what sort of cooling will i need to buy with the barebone system, or does it come with fans already?

Cheers a load guys.

Why barebone? get it seperately might be a better deal. Also don't forget the PSU.

If you're on a budget look at the 4670/4830, I've got the 4830 myself runs tf2 maxed out on 1440x900.

Main reason I was going to get the barebone was because, well, I've never built one before so I thought getting the barebone would be easier and I found out that the ASUS Vintage I was going to get is in B-stock really cheap:D

Oh and I contacted Overclockers and they told me the system came with a 300w PSU, is that any good?

I was in a similar position to you about 6 months ago, wanted a new system and was thinking about buying one...

After reading a few reviews on here, I decided to take the leap and build one for myself. I won't lie to you, it wasn't without a couple of problems (mainly due to a keyboard and bios settings). Generally speaking everything will 'click' together pretty easily. I presume you have a bit of knowledge about hardware as you've been inside your old case and removing certain things...

Give it a go yourself ;)

Ah cool, I feel a bit more confident now xD
Yeah, i mean ideally speaking, I'd just go and buy all the pieces I needed, or just buy a premade PC but my budget is pretty low (about 250quid atm:P) so I'm just going to stick with the more basic components. I'll buy a graphics card in about a month when I have a little more money:)
Thanks for the help anyway.

Btw, does anyone have any experiance with buying B-stock from this site, what sort of condition is it in?
