Spec for my Mum Please

Um, just sticking this all together and i have 2 Sata connectors on the board with SSD, HDD and DVD drive... 1 sata short...

Ye, bit a of a bummer that. Suppose thats about all i can do :-/

Note to self, don't forget to count sata ports :p

Hi all. Hopefully some will still see this.

So i had the computer built where i live, all working fine. Took it to mums friday evening. Finished the setup process there. Testing everything over the course of saturday morning and a little into the afternoon. Not noticed any issues. so I was back home to mu place saturday evening.

Couple of hours later i got a message to say my mum had noticed the screen said 'check signal cable' (because the computer had gone to sleep) and she wiggled the mouse and tapped the keyboard but it didnt wake. She tapped the power button to try that and it went off and didnt notice any odd noises but it went off immidiately. Now it wont come back on.

Tried off and on at the wall outlet. Tried off and on on the power supply. There are no lights that come on, no fans that spin. Nothing happens. Tried switching the power cable with the one on the monitor, and still nothing happens. Im thinking that power supply is dead but its an antec unit and was fine on arrival. Is there anything i might have missed???

Sadly that is a little out of her league to be able to do i think. Im going to have to make the trip to sort it myself... :(

(Hopefully those who saw this originally will be able to help, if not i will create in a new post with this issue in a few days.)

Its obviously been a little while since the last issue. It seemed to be fixed but things have now got worse and i'm a little stumped with what the root of the problem is.

The issue doesnt seem to be easily repeatable but it seems to occur after the following:

1) Computer shutdown via correct method in windows.
2) Computer is left for a few hours or so. (works fine if i re-power immediately)
3) Press the power button to turn on and nothing happens- no fans, no lights, nothing.
4) To get power on, i remove and replace the 24 pin. Then press the power button again and it turns on.

I have check SSD and HDD health. Ram in different slots. removing all usb and storage devices. hard reset using psu power swith and power button. Nothing else will enable power to come on.

Problem must be motherboard? but what is going on?

I have the error log of a full day where the problem occurred but not sure of the best way to share it.

It's either the motherboard or PSU if you ask me.

First, is the latest BIOS installed for the motherboard? If not, install it and clear the BIOS settings afterwards to be on the safe side.

Test the machine and see if the problem comes back. If so, test the PSU voltages while loading the system with something like Furmark and Prime95 running at the same time. Ideally all your voltages should be within the 5% rather.

I have updated BIOS and cleared CMOS already and that did nothing.

Presumably a multimeter to the back of the PCB is the only way to check voltages?

Not easy under load. Its only a little FM1. Will try and give it a go when i get time.

I actually have spare PSU so might be worth just running with that for a bit and see if that solves the problem.

Running stress testing atm. Prime and fur mark. 12.10v 3.328v and 5.003v. Seems more than fine to me. No cpu errors either though yet.

This computer is becoming a joke. Today i used it to transfer some photos from my Mums camera to the PC. Half the pictures just show up all in black and all the previews are just black. Some of the time a picture will show fine, most of the time it wont. Everything seems to be fine if i transfer to my PC.

Never seen this before and googling just comes up with 'how to transfer images'. I know how to transfer images, i just dont know what to do when they the PC reads them as 'black'.

Getting irritated and frustrated to be honest.

Any Ideas.
