Hey guys,

First time poster. I have been saving for a gaming PC for a while now, but a friend has given me his NZXT Phantom after he moved over to a HAF - X. This will be my first build and will be hoping to delve into OC as well.

Budget at the moment is £750 give or take a bit, and I don't need a case, monitor, any peripherals or a OS.

Thanks in advance for any replies :D

Edit: Forgot to say it will be mainly for gaming. ARMA 2, Mass Effect 2, that kind of thing.

Thank you kindly sir. I've been reading that the new batches of 6950's can't be flashed, is that right? Even if it can't be, the 6950 seems to be a pretty solid card in itself.

Yeah your right about the 6950s - they have to be rev 1 but they don't do so well in crossfire I've heard. I think your better off not getting an SSD and focus your funds on the motherboard and PSU to allow future CF/SLI....here's my effort:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £245.99

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor £173.99

Gigabyte Z68MA-D2H Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £109.99

XFX Pro 850W Core Edition Power Supply £79.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST31500341AS) £53.99

Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G) £35.99

Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £27.98

Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.98

Total : £755.90 (includes shipping : £10.00)

Although if your not too fussed about crossfire you can ignore this post:D

Thanks for the reply.

Quite surprised about the 6950 in X-Fire as I've heard good things. Is it driver support or general performance there's problems with?

Any suggestions for a Nvidia alternative even if it means adding a few £?

Oh no, I meant flashed 6950s in crossfire, not stock 6950s. Sorry, I should've made that clearer.

Yeah an Nvidia alternative would be a 570. Produces pretty similar FPS to a 6970.

MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99

Or one that is clocked a little higher with a superior cooling system but for a bit more money

MSI GeForce GTX 570 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £269.99

Thanks for the replies. Going to pick the case up this weekend, will order the Hardware next week. Think I've decided to go with a 6950 just now with a view to X-Fire it with another when the price drops in the future.

6950 will handle anything you throw it's way, nice choice:p make sure to check back before you buy hardware as the weekly deals will be different.
