There's a lot of speculation on whether it's worth gettin a quad at the moment. If you're gaming with it, there's currently very few games that support it. Crysis was meant to but from what I've heard from what people have said about the demo, it uses one core. It was the demo though so it could change. Quad core comes in more useful when you do a lot of video and audio encoding, also providing that the software you're using supports quad core cpu's as well.

Imo it's not worth it at the moment. A dual core does just as well when running games, and with intel releasing their new quad processors early next year, it might be advisable to get a cheap dual core fore now (like billytheimplaer specced) and then wait to see how fast the supports for quad core processors will increase (i'm not sayin it's not goin to, because it probably will, i'm just saying that it may take some time so it might not be worth you gettin a quad core yet).

Anyway, with the spare cash from the above spec, you could get a larger Hdd, and maybe another 2 gig of RAM if you're running a 64bit OS :)

That E2180 is pretty good for games. I mean the E6750 or the E6550 would probably run a bit better because of the extra cache they have, but because the e2180 is such a good overclocker (got mine from 2 to 3.5ghz pretty easily), you probably won't notice much of a difference between a stock 6750 and a clocked 2180

What do you mean? In general, provided you've got a motherboard with a half decent BIOS interface (which I'm sure that Abit board has), it's not too difficult provided you don't immediately push things as afr as they'll go. You do it in small (or sometimes medium) steps, depending how patient you are :) Basically ocing is generally easy as long as you don't make any silly moves (like supplying the cpu with a thousand volts lol, not like you could, but still).

And if you mean that cpu, then yeah, it is! It has a reputation for being easy to oc and you can get it to 3Ghz with the stock fan, provided you have some decent airflow in your case. With an aftermarket cooler however, such as the tuniq tower or the freezer 7 pro, you could get it all the way up to 3.5Ghz, maybe 3.6. You don't see much difference at those speeds anyway.

There's some good guides in the ocing section of this forum which take you through it all. You should have a look, it's easier than you think. And if you do have any problems than you've got the guys on here who'll be willing to help you

Lol don't worry about it mate, this rig i'm using now was my first build, only built it a few weeks ago and it works fine. It's really not that hard, honestly. And I've got an Antec Nine Hundred (like in my signature :)), it's ace for airflow as far as I'm concerned and I've got my cpu clocked totally stable at 3.5Ghz. Comes with 4 fans as well :D

If you do plan on clocking it any more than say 2.5-2.7Ghz then you might want to consider buying an aftermarket cooler. my Freezer 7 Pro does me fine and i bet i could get another 100Mhz out of my cpu if i tried, i just doubt it won't be completely stable

erm... it was about £590 i think... just less than that. I can't say where i got it from because of the forum rules but they sell pretty much all the same parts on OcUK. Thing is the 8800GT is out of stock at the moment, so it's up to you whether you want to get it from here or get it somewhere else. That's what i did, got my main rig from one place and the gfx card separately form somewhere else.

In my siggy though, I already had the audigy soundcard and the 160gig hard drive. Not bad though for £590 :)

you shouldn't have to, i've only got one in mine because i can, and i couldn't really notice the difference tbh, it just takes a bit of load off of the cpu. pretty much all mobos these days come with pretty decent integrated sound chipsets. mine came with a 8.1 output on it, i just didn't use it lol. you shouldn't need one anyway.
