Well this spec is for a friend but it has to be 550 all in with postage and packaging, this is for the base unit and all the bits inside, basically it has to run games fast and have no problems with alt tabbing between them so far i have came up with this but just want to know if anyone can do better or which items i should change, and if all the items i have stated are compatible like motherboard/cpu ect/gfx card

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)

Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (WD1600AAJS)

Gigabyte GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GV-NX88T512H-B)

LG GDR-H30NBL 16x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM

Akasa AK-ZEN-01-BK Zen Black Case - No PSU

on the mobo it also says Supports DDR2 1066* memory does that mean it will take upto 1066 mhz ram? so the Geil i have stated would be fine?

and Also the motherboards i ask this question a lot but still a Dual Core processor 2 cores would be fine in it?

Thanks

That looks absolutely fine, the motherboard will support the Geil with no problems, it is capable of handling Ram with higher speeds but it will be perfectly happy with PC6400 (800mhz).

The only change I'd make is to go for a SATA DVDRW if that isn't already. :)

I believe thats a yes to bottom 2 questions.

And if thats all for £550 thats not bad as it stands. Might be worth checking that that RAM will definately function on that motherboard based on the motherboards approved RAM listings (google an ebook version of the manual and confirm). Should be alright though.

Someone else asked this question the other day and unless Gigabyte have updated their product manual it isn't on the list of supported Ram although I know of at least five people on the forums using that exact combination. It is a good idea in principle to check but manufacturers tend not to have the resources or interest to test all of the combinations or even the most popular ones sometimes. :)

Lalumi, you may want to consider getting a larger hard drive as well then since you have cash to spare.

Thanks for the advice guys, i am going to replace this one for more space/quietness

Western Digital Caviar SE16 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD4000AAKS)

and this SATA drive,

LG GSA-H66NBAL 18x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

atm 530 pound so looking good so far.

Also on my board atm i have a shortage of fan connectors i have 2 fans but i could only find 1 slot which would fit into it as it didnt have anymore, that was a gigabyte DS3 does anyone know if this mobo has more slots for the fans?

Thanks again
