Asked a while ago for a spec, and people helped me out then (especially Stelly :)), but the more time I spend thinking about it, the more I keep going nuts >_<
Thought i'd give a try here again and see if it clears up my mind a bit more. I'm just going nuts deciding the components, lol.

I'm just going to write down what i've decided and what I need and kindly request you to help out a first time builder going mad ;)

What i've decided - (recommendations welcome of course)

NEC ND4571 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer LabelFlash ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Samsung SH-D162 DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM
Scythe Ninja Plus Heatpipe CPU Cooler (Socket 478, 754, 939, 940, LGA755)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition - Retail
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 ZX PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBZX)
Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.93GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache - OEM
Western Digital Secure Connect Serial ATA Cable (CB-000-WD)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Akasa AK-183-L2B Amber Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin

What I can't decide

Graphics Cards - I have no desire to wait for the DX 10 cards, so please don't suggest that. I'm going to be getting a 24" monitor, so need to know what the best card is to get for that. Price is not an issue, and I want maximum performance. I was going for 2 x 7950's earlier, but read that at the res. of a 24", 2 x 7900 GTX would actually perform better. Need to know if this is true. I can't get a 30" monitor, so that's out of the question.

Motherboard - I was going to wait for the Nforce 590 SLI Intel edition, since I thought that no other motherboard would support conroe and SLI, but seems like the Asus P5N32 SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLI does. Would the Nforce 590 offer a significant difference in performance and upgradeability? Or is better to just go with this one? I really don't want to wait, but if I have to, I have to.

Power Supply - Was going to go with the Tagan TG900-U95 900W ATX2.01 Turbojet Quad SLi Silent PSU for *** Quad SLI setup, but would I still need that for the 2 x 7900? If not, then what would be a good one for that?

Case, i'm undecided but have got plenty advice in Case Centrel, so will decide that soon hopefully.

I don't think i have missed out any components, but if I have, please feel free to add them. Price is not an issue, and I already have a Saitek Eclipse and Razer Copperhead to go with it.

Thank you everyone. All help is greatly appreciated. I'm ready to crack at this point :p

I know it's a lot to read, but i'm really going nuts over here :(
Help a first time builder ^_^

i've just done a new build of similar speck, it is true that 2x 7900gtx in sli will run faster than one 7950, if your thinking of having the 900w psu why not have 2x 7950's the drivers are out for quad sli now and nvidia is recomending the gigabyte dq6 to run it on. (there in stock too). i'm running only one but everything's smooth at 1600x1200 res with everything on in F.E.A.R. that's the only reason i'm not pining for another card.

one thing of note read up about ram compatability problems if you decide to go for the gigabytr board i've had a noghtmare with my ds4 but all smooth now.

Am thinking of dual 7950's, but just unsure if they will be faster than dual 7900s on a resolution of a 24" monitor. ARe you sure about that motherboard running Quad SLI? I searched around and was under the impression that apart from the Asus nfroce4 SLI SE, which has some stability issues, nothing can run conroe and SLI. That's why I thought I needed to wait for the nforce 590 SLI Intel edition.

my appologies i was mistaken, no multi gpu support with the dq6, i had misread it in the compatability list on nvidia. what res are you running at? if it's above 1600x1200 then you will get the benefit but if not the one 7950 or 2 7900gtx will be fine.
