Hi all,

Have decided to go ahead and by a new mobo after all, since not felling to happy with the one I have right now. Since the i5-2500 3,30 GHz I have now is a 1155 and not many mobos around for that chip I also going to change the CPU, so would like some recommendations for new mobo + CPU. Only "requirment" would be that I need minimum of 8 SATA ports (that's what my present mobo has and I am using them all).

Also need a new GFX card, that can handle 3 24'' monitors, my present one is a Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770 and it struggling slightly, plus sometimes I get flickers across the screens when starting programs/spel/YouTube etc.. I been using the Vapor-X for some years but open to others, as long as it is quiet and, if possible, energy efficent it's all good. :D

Lastly I am going to switch from HD to SSD's, saw someone saying that any SSD would be an improvment from a HD so guessing could just pick anyone but rather have someone experienced with them giving me a suggestion as to which one to pick. It's going to be for my OS, Win 7 64 bit, and I always had my OS on a RAID 1 configuration since it felt safer for me that way but thinking maybe it is not needed nowdays ? Right now my OS with some programs (not any games, they on a seperate HD) is 122GB so thinking maybe 250GB for the SSD, to be on the safe side ??

Budget around £1000 at a maximum, but if it can be done much cheaper I might be able to by my 3rd Dell U2412M monitor much sooner then planned.

I already have a Corsair HX750 PSU and Corsair DDR XMS3 Vengeance 1600 MHz CL9 2x4gb memory, which hopefully should be enough to go around for the above new items ?

Any and all suggestions is greatly appreicated ! :o

Whopsi, my bad. I have a Silverstone TJ-09 case already which I am happy with, but thanks for adding that suggestion as well. If not that case sure would be tempting, it looks sweet ! =)

Shivy011, thank you for your suggestion! Was a bit late last evening and forgot to say that. :o I had not even thought of a aftermarket cooler for the CPU!

I am rather outdated on stuff but I take it the GTX 780 is equalent to the R9 290 ??

How much difference would it be between the i7-4770K and the i5-4870K if I would do a slight overclocking as well ? Bare in mind never done overclocking but if I would decided to do it, would one of them be better for it or both the same ? I mostly play CIV V and similar games but saw the other day that they released a new version of Wolfenstein, which I used to love playing ages ago, rather tepmted to buy that and have a go with it again! System requirements saying you need a i7 though, so I guess I do have to get that and not a i5 as I was thinking since it would lower the cost a bit. :o

I take it that doing RAID 1 nowdays is not really needed ?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated ! =)

It's pretty much equivalent, but I prefer nvidia as you won't have to rma 500 times :)

Lol yep, but the 290 is as good if not better, but I prefer plug and also shadow play is nice. The extra gig of vram could be good for higher resolutions.

YOUR BASKET

Total : £931.51 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Was browsing through This Week Only Deals and saw there was 2 deals to be had so ended up with this in the basket. Not to sure about the SSD's though, not knowing anything about SSD I mean, are the Intel just as good as any other brand there ? Took 2 since the price is tempting and still not decided if I will continue to run in RAID 1 or not. If not the 2nd SSD can be used for my games. :)

Was going to add the Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 2 CPU Cooler as well that Shivy011 suggested but it's out of stock at the moment, if anyone could suggest another one maybe ??

But most important, will the above run ok with what I have already, which is;

Case: Silverstone TJ-09
PSU: Corsair HX750
Memory: Corsair DDR XMS3 Vengeance 1600 MHz CL9 2x4gb
Audio: ASUS Xonar D2
DVD: DVDR PX-800A and PX-891SA
Monitors: 2 x Dell U2412M and 1 NEC MultiSync 24WMGX3 <= The GFX card will def be enough to run 3 monitors smoothly right ?

Not sure if I forgot anything else, will try a bit of OC hence was thinking about the Be Quiet but anything else one should consider ? Wont be doing watercooling though, so be all air. :)

Actually, I be needing some brackets for the SSD's wont I ? Or are they included ?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thats the best R9 290 on the market. Fast, quiet, looks amazing.

Thanks stulid, glad to hear that. Take it all will work well together since you didn't point anything else out. =)

If someone could recommend a CPU cooler to go with it since the one mentioned is out of stock and I have no clue what so ever what to look for in one, always used the cooler that comes with the CPU. Have read though, if doing any OC the stock cooler might not be good enough, hence hoping on some help there. :D

Lastly, do I need brackets for the SSD or are they included, since they are 2,5'' and not 3.5'' as the HD cages are in my case.

Bummer, should been quicker hitting the buy button, I see the price been increased on the Intel SSD now to £98.99. :( Maybe should go with the Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO instead then, since it been suggested in several other specs I seen, while the Intel not so much. Any suggestions there ??

Presently with the increase of price my basket looks like this now.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor-X OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11227-04-40G) £359.99

Total : £969.50 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I hit the buy button later today, hopefully !! =)

It all works together.

The Intel SSD should come with drive bay adapters - http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTM1OTY5ODYxOHRvWGt6VVREOHpfM180X2wuanBn

Thanks once again stulid !! Much appreciate, would hate to order and then not able to put them into the PC due to missing brackets. :o

Now, lastly, if I do OC the CPU, would the stock cooler that comes with the CPU be enough or should I pick another one and if so, which one ?? As mentioned I have not the slightest clue as to which one to pick, as long as it is quiet then I be happy. =)

The stock cooler will only get you to around 4Ghz, but it will also spin up much quicker tio keep the temps in check, so gets noisy and loud.

You have low profile RAM so you can pretty much take your pick of coolers as long as they fit into your case and you can still close the side panel.

Looks like you can pretty much fit anything you want.

Once again you come to my rescue, stulid !! =)

Uhmm but I have to admit, there to many and I don't have the foggiest idea as to what would be best to pick. :o  As you pointed out with the stock cooler, noisy and loud, that's words I do not like. Which one would you, or anyone else reading this, pick that would keep the CPU cool and noise to a minimum ? If the one that Shivy011 picked, not been out of stock I would taken that one, but ack, it's not there now. Guess I could pick the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU Cooler for £69 but might be other that's quiet as well but less cost ?? Or are they more or less around same prices. :o

stulid, you rock man ! *thumbs up*

And me being me, after reading about those 5 mentioned I liked the sound of the Noctua flagship, the NH-D15. Although even if it is the most expensive and the color scheme is terrible it sounds like to be what I prefer, silent. =)

With that in mind, my basket now looks like this. Hopefully I have not missed anything vital for now though, if I have please shout quickly before I hit the buy button. :p

I see no reason why everything wont work and you should have everything you need (SATA cables come with the board, paste comes with the D15)
