Hi gods of all things computing.

I was hoping you could help me. I am trying to build a rig for between £300 and £350 for a friend.

Their only caveats are they want an i5, 4GB Ram (though happy to go with more if its in the budget), case and 1TB hard drive though will need everything but a dvd writer.

Does anyone have any suggestions...also can you let me know the major differences between H61 and H67 chipsets? Its not going to be a gaming rig but he does want the option to drop in a card later.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately your not going to be able to get a new i5 rig for that price.
@ the mo 1TB drives are £100, the lowest i5 you will find is £140.
that leaves you with £110 for a motherboard, RAM, PSU and a case.
Not looking good, you might want to recommend they keep saving :(

As for H61 Vs H67, they are the same except H67 has things like USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s ports on them.

you can still shop around for a 1tb drive and find them for £60-70 so it might be possible. However youl more than likely end up over budget.

best i can do:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Home Server GTi Intel Core i5 2300 2.80GHz DDR3 - Server £439.99
1 x No Operating System £0.00
1 x System 12 Months Standard Warranty £0.00
1 x No Hard Drive Upgrade £0.00
1 x Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G) £26.99
Total : £479.58 (includes shipping : £10.50).

this comes with 2x2TB drives, so get him to sell one of them and you'll be a lot closer to the £350 mark, and have twice as much storage as expected

the PSU is half decent too, so it should be happy with a half decent graphics card
