Spec ideas - quiet gaming PC

After guidance on a new PC build please as I'm totally out of touch on things.

Current PC is one of the original 2.4gig core2duos with a 4870.

Looking to build a new PC for circa £1000 ish (but not rigid on this) for entire PC (excluding monitor and KB/Mouse), as old system will be going as upgrade to parents.

For monitor thinking of treating myself to a Dell 2711 - or is their any better alternatives? Need OS - so probably Win 7 then I believe it gets a cheao Win 8 upgrade next year?

System will be mainly for gaming, with also office use for the missus

Looking to keep it as quiet as possibly, unless that affects performance too much, in which case forget it!

Random spec musings :-

Processor - likely i5 3570k, unless it's worth the extra for i7 for future proofing?

Cooling - is Corsair H100 or equivalent worth it and quieter - or just a fad and cheap decent air is jsut as good?

Motherboard - haven't got a clue! - although Crossfire / SLI good for future proofing again

Memory - assume as it's so cheap now worth going 16gig for future?

Gfx - again out of touch? 670 or 7970 seems to be at the peak before silly prices? Or is it better to go CF 2x 7850 for about the same cost, although this limits future upgrades? This is the one thing I'm not really sure on at all?

HD - SSD for OS + games - decent size so will fit most ones on the go without having to swap. Then a storage drive for stuff

Sound - have sound cards died a death and everyone just uses onboard now?

PSU - Not sure? - looking for recommendations?

Think that just leaves case - so many options now! Are the 'sound reduced' ones worth it, or do they not work? Is it worth replacing fans with quieter ones, or is this again just a fad? - looking for help again!

Sorry, bit of a long winded post - but all the specs I've looked at over the last few days don't consider noise so although there's been a lot of good recommendations (which I've based the above on) I'm not sure where to go

Cheers in advance :)

Thanks for the replies everyone. The R4 looks like a nice case and gets decent reviews.

What about i7 vs i5 - no point in a 7, even for future proofing?

Doing some more reading and 7950 cards looks to clock to the same as a 7970? Are there basically the same and should there save a bit of money?

From what I've read the i5 is perfect for gaming but if you do any video rendering etc... The it's best to opt for the i7 due to its multi threading abilities - someone more experienced will confirm this for you though.

Keep the i5, not worth the price hike. By the time games will use hyperthreading there will be better chips available, save the money and get a better graphics card.
