im after getting my fiancee a laptop for christmas to replace her pc that is read for the dump.

im budgeting around £450

needs to be able to handle her work software (Not sure what this is called)

500GB HD+

14-15"+ screen.

the most important thing is for it to run her work software smoothly so i was thinking mem and cpu most important.

gfx dont matter as she wont game at all.

any makes i should avoid or any i should look for?

any suggestions please?

thanks.

ok thanks, i shall make that top priority.

this dell inspiron 15R is £490 which is pushing my budget and speced at:

Inspiron N5110 (FCG38) - i3-2310 (2.10GHz, 3MB cache, Dual Core)

4GB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [1x4096]

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i3-2310M processor 2.10 GHz

500GB hdd

1 GB nVidia GeForce GT 525M

is that a decent spec for the price?

You can buy that laptop without the dedicated GPU and a 640GB HDD for £450 not direct from Dell. There is also a couple of Lenovo Z570 laptops about for between £400-450 too.

would like it to be brand new tbh.

i hate having 2nd hand or anything like that :p

think ive narrowed it down to a couple so i will post the specs later to see which is the best to go for.

got some time alone and have done some browsing and found 3, opinions on these?

1/ cheap

£408 MSI CR640-020UK

15.6" screen

Intel Core i3 2310M 2.1GHZ

4GB mem

320GB hdd

Intel GMA 3000 GFX

2/ middle

£435 Asus K53E-SX087V

15.6" screen

Intel Core i3 2310M 2.13GHZ

4GB mem

640GB hdd

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD GFX

3/ expensive

£479 MSI CX623-203UK

ntel Core i3 370M 2.4GHZ

15.6" screen

4GB mem

640GB hdd

1GB NVIDIA GeForce 310M GFX

all have home premium.

so

if the 3rd is really worth the price i will go over the budget slightly for it.

edit*

just found this on the purple shirt place

£430 DELL Inspiron Q17R 17.3"

Intel Core i3-2310M 2.10GHz

4GB, DDR3
Integrated Media Accelerator HD
640GB

hate to give them my moneys but it seems good for the price to me.

Have you checked Dells small business line Vostro.

I tend to rate them higher then the home Inspiron lines.
