Spec ma a 5.1 card please.

I am looking for a high quality pci 5.1 card. I need the card only as I already have a high quality 5.1 system with a control box and want to upgrade from the onboard Realtek HD I currently use.

How are you connecting to the speakers? Analogue (3.5mm) or digital (optical).

OK. Just checking. Some people have speakers that use optical connection, and think that a sound card will improve the sound quality over onboard audio; which doesn't apply to digital.

Good choices would be Xonar DX or Soundblaster Z, both for around £60. Maybe Strix Raid Pro or SoundBlaster Zx, if you have a headset you want to use as well and want desktop volume control. I would only go for those though, if you need that feature, because the actual cards aren't much different to the £60 ones.
